He is the face of professional wrestling so I would think so. Also is he more famous than undertaker/Bret//hbk?

He hasn't gone out of his way to make himself an ultra megastar in the mainstream. I imagine non-fans know the name and know who he is, but is he on the level of Dwayne Johnson? No.
But it's not like he's completely unknown.

He's easily the most well known active wrestler that's on the full time roster. If people think of any modern pro-wrestler, they are gonna think of John Cena more likely than not.
He's certainly more well known than HBK and HBK is my favorite wrestler ever. Outside of Canada, I'd say he's more famous than Bret as well. Taker is an odd one because people outside of wrestling know who he is just because he's been around for so damn long. I'd probably give the nod to Taker in that case.

I would put him on the same level as Triple H as far being known by the mainstream.
I think Undertaker's fame is mainly within wrestling, he's not been in movies or TV shows, not done a lot of talk shows, but to wrestling fans he's arguably the greatest ever.

I think it depends on the demographic. He's proably pretty well known to kids, due to bein a decent regular on their networks. But I'd doubt he's very well known beyond that, as WWE's attempts to make another crossover star have flopped pretty hard.
I think the others are better known, just because they got the benefit of being involved in bigger booms than Cena was.

There's no way Cena is more famous than HBK. I think even 98-01 upper-midcarder dudes like Booker T are more well-known than Cena.

Damn near everyone I talk to knows who John Cena is especially if you do the "you can't see me" gesture while talking about him.
The Cena hate here is crazy. People try to dismiss anything he does as not being good enough.

I grew up with everyone just kind of knowing who Hulk Hogan was, even if they didn't watch wrestling. There was some of that with Stone Cold Steve Austin, but I would argue not at the same level. Obviously, The Rock (today at least) can't really go with the comparison because he is so famous for movies now. I just don't see John Cena being at the level with Hogan and Stone Cold. Wrestling is simply not cool and not as popular. Cena has been the poster boy for a pretty successful period, but not a hot period. Anyway, Cena is probably one of most known wrestlers of his generation to non-fans, but his fame and notoriety doesn't match Hogan and Austin's in terms of the masses being familiar with him.

The people I know who know John Cena who are not wrestling fans are girls who think he's sexy. I'm not joking.

Is he on the Rock or Hogans level of crossover success? No way. To say he's somewhat a celebrity, absolutely. Guy has alot of crossover appeal and to say he's not known outside wrestling circles is just downright false. Seems he is especially well known in the sporting community as well.
So to me, yeah that qualifies as famous.

After awhile, if you walk through the toy aisle enough, you'll know him.

I've been surprised numerous times by learning that people I know who have absolutely zero interest in wrestling mention Cena, and he's clearly the only current wrestler they know of. He's not hugely mainstream popular, but he is part of pop culture.

I do a joke about him on stage and people seem to laugh. So maybe?

A co-worker's kid wanted to be Cena for Halloween a year or two ago, despite the fact that no one in their family watched wrestling.

I've actually heard more people who aren't fans reference Punk over Cena.

I was surprised by the reaction when he released that song with Wiz Khalifa. On the non-wrestling/music sites I visited I was expecting the comment sections to have a bunch of "who is this guy?" type stuff. People seemed to know who he was though. Although some of them seemed to think he was still using the rap gimmick in WWE today.
