I understand the screwjob trumped everything, but in retrospect, we were truly robbed of a great Bret Hart return. When Bret left WWE, his character was at an all time high of interest.
By the time 2010 rolled around, it was tough to care, as he didn't come back to continue his angle, but something between a cross of legit forgiveness for Shawn and some kayfabe hug with Vince that led to Mania.
That being said, should he have apologized to America upon his return?

Nah.
After what happened in Montreal, he was forgiven. The Screwjob took over any lingering "Bret hates America" hate. It was a far larger beast to tackle.

Maybe Bret still hates America. It's just he realizes openly expressing his disdain for the U.S. would be bad business the next time he tries to sell something about his self-congratulatory contributions to wrestling.
I still wish he'd explain how America reminds him of the shape of a toilet bowl. I don't know what kind of crazy looking toilets they got over in Alberta, but I'd like to see one.

By the time 2010 rolled around, it was tough to care, no it wasn't people were really going crazy for what was about to happen there was so much suspense. In fact some people even went as far as doubting if he would actually return despite WWE nailing it in our heads that he would.

Eh by 2010 I seriously doubt that anyone by then would still give a flying f*** and not mention right after the screwjob he did apologize by saying that it was just a storyline and he really didn't hate America as his mother was a yank.

Stu Hart had a special made toilet for the dungeon in the shape of the United States. It's REALLY hard to sit on, though.

I honestly never even considered this until this post so I don't think many others did either. Bret probably even didn't.

The United States finally figured out the whole "family values" thing... possibly... maybe.

He apologized by being the US Champion?
Wait...that may have made things worse.

Stu had to stretch their bottoms to fit the USA toilet.

He gave the US an enema that one time though, stuck it right in Pittaburgh.
How could a formerly constipated country be upset with the man who liberated it?

Why would he apologize to violent degenerates who live on a giant toilet bowl?
