Absolutely. People saying the hoods prove they werent... they were kinda modeled after this... From the movie The Road Warrior where Hawk and Animal got almost all of their gimmick from (including the name) That's the way I always saw it. Demolition's look was modelled on Lord Humungous: While the Road Warriors modelled their look on Wez, from the same movie: The Road Warriors came first, and got over with it big time, which led to the inspiration for Demolition.

I've never seen them as "rip offs" myself, to me it's like saying Bill Goldberg was a Steve Austin ripoff because he was bald, had a goatie & wore black trunks

They started off that way, and became their own thing.

In terms of looks and origin. Absolutely. They did however over time become a different enough team in their own right for me to say by the end of their run they were no longer rip offs, they were homages Seriously though, loved them as a team, but yeah they were originally created when Vince couldn't get the originals to come to WWF.

They're one of my all time favorite teams, but clearly they were.

Their drop from WM6 to WM7 was incredible. From world champs to jobber tag team. I know Ax taking a back seat then leaving hurt them but wow what a fall Even with the LOD coming onto the scene, and Ax's health starting to decline, it was time for their run to wind down. There really wasn't much more that could be done with them. That being said, Demolition had an incredible run. Still the longest tag title reign in company history when the division was as deep as it ever would be. That says a lot about how over they were, plus they had one of the best theme songs ever.

Since both Demolition and the Road Warriors were "ripoffs" of Mad Max 2: Road Warrior, it doesn't make any sense to say that Demolition were ripoffs of a ripoff, especially since they were modelled after Humungus. Even if Demolition were ripoffs of any wrestler, Hawk and Animal would only get 50% of the credit, while the other 50% would go to the wrestler Lord Humongous who debuted in 1984.

The only real similarities were that they both wore face paint and had spikes, and the designs on both were very different. There were a lot more similarities between the Rockers and Rock n' Roll Express than the Road Warriors and Demolition.
