Oops. Honestly forgot about that one. I was thinking of the Giants and Angels series in 2002.

I don't know about history since I've only been alive for 22 years but Bumgarner's performance is the best pitching performance in a World Series I've seen.
I've heard of performances in the World Series by Sandy Koufax and Christy Mathewson being mentioned in the discussion of best ever. I'll leave that to those who are better Baseball historians than I am.

I can't like this enough. Sorry that the Giants were better than everyone else in the NL playoffs when it mattered. Sorry they were then better than Kanasa City over 7 games. And this comes from someone who admittedly was rooting for KC. What made me laugh most was pointing out how Bumgartner pitched during the season. Who cares? All that anyone remembers is how he pitched when it really mattered and he pitched like a beast. The Dodgers and inevitable Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw? Awesome during the season and crapped the bed in the playoffs. If you're not lifting the trophy and getting rings, your awesome season means jack. Exactly. The postseason (should you be fortunate/good enough to get there) is what should truly matter to any player worth a damn

Not to try to overrate a starting pitchers record (let's face it, it's nice to look at but not a clear indication of how good a pitcher is), what's wrong with winning 18 games?
The dude won 18 games. Only 3 pitchers in the baseball won more and all 3 of them had better regular seasons then him if you look at the stats as a whole. (Kershaw, Cueto, Wainwright). The fact that this was a historic pitching performance should not in any way be diminished. When it came time to step up he showed guts and pitched his ass off.
Going to have to come up with a better reason to bitch about the guy then he won 18 games in 2014. Guy is probably going to finish 4th in the Cy Young this year simply because the 3 ahead of him were better in the regular season. If he was in the AL this year he would be in the CY Young discussion. You can make a serious argument that NO ONE was EVER better than him in this post season. That's not hyperbole, that's a debatable fact.

Daniel Bryan is hanging out with the Giants at their victory parade today. They just posted a picture of him and Hunter Pence with a WWE Title.
Probably going to be a rousing YES YES YES chant at the Civic Center!

I have to admit, I'm excited about Maddon. At the end of the day, it's still going to be about the team on the field, but it's hard to imagine a better fit than Joe. He's experienced with a team full of young, talented players. And that's hopefully just what the Cubs are going to be. And he should mesh very well with the organizational philosophy of Theo and Jed.
But still, terribly unfair to Rick Renteria. Even Epstein said he deserved better. And under any almost any other circumstance he still be Managing the Cubs. But this just makes too much sense.

You got to go for the best option. Renteria was NOT going to be the guy that was going to lead the Cubs to the championship. Guys like Maddon don't come along quite often. I'm extremely excited!! Not it's time to bring in some good pitchers and the Cubs could at the very least, compete for a wildcard next year.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees "don't seem especially likely" to make Hiroki Kuroda a qualifying offer.
