Robert Murray of MLBDailyRumors.com reports the Athletics have signed Billy Butler to a three-year, $30 million deal. How the heck did he get the nickname 'County Breakfast'?

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox's offer to free agent Jon Lester "falls into the $110-120 million range over six years."

Robert Murray of MLBDailyRumors.com reports the Athletics have signed Billy Butler to a three-year, $30 million deal. The worshipers of the Church of Billy Beane have fallen silent after he opted to give $30 million to a guy who posted a negative WAR last season. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox's offer to free agent Jon Lester "falls into the $110-120 million range over six years." This is good news for the Red Sox. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Pablo Sandoval "will get at least a five-year deal, if not six or seven. This is bad news for the Red Sox.

Bullpen pitcher Zach Duke was signed earlier in the week, now Adam LaRoche is penciled in as the DH/1B.
Gotta hand it to the White Sox: their choices for free agents may not be sexy, but they make sense.

Jesus BRV, did Billy Beane beat you up as a child or something? You will look for any excuse to bash him at this point, it's ridiculous.

Jesus BRV, did Billy Beane beat you up as a child or something? You will look for any excuse to bash him at this point, it's ridiculous. I've made my thoughts on Billy Beane pretty obvious through the years. I think he's wildly overrated as a general manager, undeserving of the "genius" tag with which he is so frequently labeled, and gets a ridiculous amount of praise for someone whose teams, in 17 seasons, have never won an LCS game, let alone a League Championship or a World Series. And when you criticize Beane's teams for never winning anything of note, the argument always goes back to, "Yeah, but he has limited financial resources!", and sure, he can't just open up the checkbook or back up the Brinks truck to sign every free agent, but look what he does with his limited resources: spends $30 million on a guy who last season statistically made his team worse when he was on the field.

Butler is mostly a DH, so he doesn't take the field that often.
Granted, he had a pretty lousy offensive season last year, too.

I'm a Nats fan, the guy can still pick it and saved a ton of errors with his glove. Your defense will improve by just having him there.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox will sign Hanley Ramirez to a contract "in range" of five years and $90 million.
I...don't like this. That's a lot of money and a lot of years to give to a guy who is about to turn 31 years old and has played in more than 120 games only twice in the last six seasons. If the money and years were equal, or close to equal, I would have rather seen the Red Sox give that offer to Pablo Sandoval, a younger, better player to patrol the hot corner.

Um Red Sox, the way to fix almost losing 100 games last year is not to throw money at everything.

The only way this makes a lick of sense is: A. They trade Cespedes and move Hanley to left B. They trade Napoli and move Pablo to first C. They trade Bogarts or Betts By the way Red Sox, YOU STILL NEED PITCHING!!!!
