Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Phillies want prospect catcher Blake Swihart from the Red Sox in a potential Cole Hamels deal. Swihart is the top catching prospect in a org that has hardly any catcher depth. You don't know how this works, do you Amaro?

So, in this wacky world of baseball, the White Sox were finally given a RHP as the Angels' "player to be named later" in the Gordon Beckham trade last July...
The same day the White Sox RE-SIGN Gordon back onto the team (1-year, $2M).
(Sox asked for waivers on LF Dayan Viciedo, for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. Good luck to Tank on his future endeavors.)

The Brewers and Phillies continue to discuss a deal for Jonathan Papelbon, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Heyman notes the primary holdup in a deal is the difference in opinion on what the Phillies' return should be for the 34-year-old closer.

The Red Sox today avoided arbitration with starting pitcher Wade Miley, signing him to a three-year, $19.25 million contract with a team option for a fourth year. And while I didn't love the Wade Miley trade (and frankly, still don't) and while I think his best-case scenario in Boston is a middle-of-the-road third or fourth starter, if you have the ability to lock up a 28-year-old pitcher on a team-friendly contract, you do it.
I don't like Miley, but I LOVE him at $6.41 million annually.

Man, the NL West is going to be fun this year.
The Giants are defending World Series champions, returning every key player from their entire 2014 roster, with the exception of Pablo Sandoval.
The Padres are going for it, acquiring James Shields, Wil Myers, Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Will Middlebrooks, and Derek Norris.
The Dodgers are perennial underachievers given how much they've committed to the team financially, but they always have to be considered legitimate pennant contenders.

Pads still have an ungodly awful infield. You can't really top the Giants or Dodgers when your infield is that bad.

Love this classic Astros thing Baseball Photos@baseball_Photos "Just drop the bat, walk back to the dugout, and nobody gets hurt." What could have been if JR did not have that stroke.

LOL at Wil Middlebrooks being in the same category as those guys. I highly doubt he lives up to his potential. Sean Burroughs 2.0 looks more likely.

Sad that the only teams in the NL West that have a shot at winning it are all the ones in Cali. No love for the Rockies or D-Backs.

Rumors are swirling on Twitter that Marlins Park in Miami will host the 2017 MLB All-Star Game.
And like the Billy Joel song, MLB will care for Miami 2017 in name alone, yet still be about nothing but New York.

Didn't know where to put it, but Jackie Robinson West has been stripped of the 2014 Little League World Series United States Champion status.
