Ok so if Mr T was so good for mania then how come his boxing match at mania 2 isn't so legendary? If Hulk Hogan was so good for Mania then how come his title win at WM9 isn't so legendary? If WrestleMania is so good then how come WM 11 isn't so legendary? If Superman is so good then how come 'Man of Steel' wasn't so legendary? If Bob Newhart is so good how come 'Bob' wasn't so legendary? If pizza is so good how come frozen pizza isn't so legendary? Wow I really hit a nerve there, I didn't know Mr T and frozen pizza were so important in your life:)

As someone who hates pretty much all celebrity involvement in wrestling (I couldnt understand the crowd going crazy for Arnold punching HHH, I wanted a wrestler to be the one doing that, I suppose Tyson's stint is the one I can most accept) and putting aside what the resulting timeline would have been, I would like if we could look back on history with Piper vs Hogan as the first WM main event because that would be cool and fitting but as someone who didnt live through it I cant say that an alternaverse me born in 1972 wouldn't be loving it as it happened. It's easy to misjudge things that happened in the past with our informed 21st century eyes either forgetting what it was like at the time or never knowing.

Without Mr. T, there wouldn't have been a Wrestlemania 2 and there probably wouldn't have been a WWF after 1985. Vince put everything he had on it succeeding and T was an absolute factor in it doing so. Without him, it would have been another rasslin show that wouldn't have attracted the interest it did.

I just think Wrestlemania 1 looks really depressing with just how dark the arena is. I know alot of shows were like that in the day but still, just had a really doomie atmosphere. I like the look of the dark arenas but since I was a kid I always wondered why the arenas were dark until just a few years after the 80s boom. As for big events/PPVs, the dark ones were WrestleMania, Wrestling Classic, II, Survivor Series 87 and from that point the shows were much brighter. Even the Superstar tapings of 1987 (maybe prior, but I never saw those) were bright lighted.

I think a lot of that had to do with the changing demographics and just trying to present wrestling in a new way. Instead of seeing a bunch of adults sitting around in the dark drinking beer, like you might see for a boxing match, it was kids wearing merchandise with homemade signs. Plus, with the crowds they were pulling in those days, there was no reason to darken the arena. Better to let the whole world see how people were coming out in droves to see wrestling. Imagine WrestleMania III with a dark arena.

The funny thing about WrestleMania is that the Silverdome became very dark as the night progressed.

Mr T was a massive star at the time, and he looked like a wrestler anyway, so it worked out fine.
And I doubt Piper would have jobbed to Hogan.

They were done so in order for the attention to be on what was going on in the ring, be it wrestling or boxing, and not on the lunatic in the third row who kept screaming at the heels.

Mr. T should have been used differently at Mania 2. That boxing contest was horrible. Roddy wouldn't even put Hogan over, so I feel safe that Roddy wouldn't have lost to Mr. T in a regular match. Perhaps they should have done Piper and Orton v. Mr. T and Andre, though Andre was booked to win the battle royal that year in a different city altogether.
On-topic: No he didn't! He was an integral part of creating the buzz for the show.

Mr. T ruined Wrestlemania like Hugh Jackman ruined Wolverine.

NOT having Mr. T probably would've ruined Wrestlemania. His involvement along with other celebrities like Muhammad Ali, Liberace and Cyndi Lauper helped make Wrestlemania the success and spectacle it is today. Without them, it might as well have just been another MSG house show that nobody would remember...
