They have been doing all these anniversary things. Like with Hart/Benoit/Bryan all having similar title victories at Wrestlemania 10/20/30. The supposed new face of the company (Roman or Dean) taking over at Wrestlemania 31, (10 years after Cena and Batista). So what better time than to turn Cena heel in 2016, twenty years after the Hogan heel turn. By then the Shield will be established as the top guys, Cena will be almost 40 and out of touch with the kids and with all the Cena heel turn teases it has to happen eventually? Nobody ever thought the streak was going to end or the world titles would be unified or that the brand split would end but all those things happened because it made sense. And a Cena heel turn makes too much sense not to happen eventually

I don't get why people don't get this and just deal with it?
Its not going to happen. Ever. Why would they? Why would they take one of their biggest cash cows and public relations stars and turn him heel, effectively killing him and any value he has?
People think that if Cena turned heel that the people that boo him now would magically cheer him, just because he is a heel. They wouldn't. There is nothing, absolutely nothing they could do to make those people cheer Cena. So instead of having a 50/50 audience, they'd have a 100% audience hating him.

I don't think it's ever an inevitability. It'll only happen if WWE ever replace him as their number 1 guy. And by that I don't mean the guy pushed as number 1 but the guy who makes them the most money. It's possible that won't happen before he decides to hang up his boots. People mention Hogan turning heel but if Hogan had stayed with WWE making only occasional special appearances post 1993, I'd doubt if he'd ever have turned. Austin turned but merchandise sales fell off a cliff as a result. I don't think Vince is too keen to repeat that.
At 37 I'd argue it's likely that he'll retire from full-time competition before he's turned.

Cena will turn heel.
But it'll probably be whenever they fully transition all the Cena kids to something else. When they get old enough they'll like someone else like the Shield boys. Basically we've got to get rid of those kids before he turns heel. That might be hell maybe 5 years from now before that happens. You have to get someone to officially take Cena's spot, get all the merch sales from Cena transitioned to someone else and then you'd be good. The problem is that it's hard to do especially with establishing a new guy. It's not easy.
And honestly given Cena's condition he'll probably retire before he turns. Yeah he'll come back on-screen and stuff but still, THEN he can turn heel once he's a part-timer lol.

The only bit I'd disagree with is the last sentence, the people booing him now would most likely cheer him as a heel because that is what that particular demographic wants him to be. To the people who say he will turn heel, I point to Rey Mysterio. He was the definitive No.1 Hispanic draw during his run for the WWE, did he turn heel? No. Why? Because that would f*** them out of money, just like turning Cena would. There is unlikely to be another guy coming through who will do as much as Cena has done for the WWE, or to portray themselves as effectively as Cena has as the WWE's poster boy. |

He doesnt have the ability to be a heel. His #lolzjokes persona isn't going to translate well into being a bad guy. Last time all he had was awful rapping and surely he wont revisit that again.

While no time soon, I don't see how anyone can say he'll never turn heel. For example, Cena could easily have another 10+ years of his career, and the WWE will have likely found another top face for the WWE, and Cena will be pushed down to a kind of HBK roll during his last few years. And it would certainly be possible for him to turn during that time. I just don't understand how anyone can say, after watching years of wrestling, that something as simply done as a heel turn will never happen.

I recall Cena saying he definitely has what it takes to be a heel in an interview earlier this year but he said there's no point in going heel. I think if he turned heel, Cena will probably be one of the best heels in the business given he's been in all the feuds against heels, he can see their faults and the faults of said angles and he knows what can get people annoyed and at the same time, he knows how to get the babyface hot. If he went heel Cena would be amazing. Just the fact I don't think they'll do it. |

I think it's going to happen sooner than we think. While the WWE and Vince in general seems to be clueless on building new stars, deep down they have to realize Cena isn't getting any younger, injuries are piling up, and fans aren't tuning in as much as they used to.
Now to be fair live attendance appears to be what's important in terms of revenue, fan interest, and so forth. However, when push comes to shove, their talent pool needs to be built up and they need to utilize it to the fullest of its ability. That means taking guys like Ziggler, Rollins, Ambrose, Bray, Ryback, Bryan, and continue building them up for when that day comes, they'll be able to take the ball, run with it, and have the company built around them in the process.
So it'll happen and it'll happen soon. When it happens I think it'll be fresh, unique, and it won't result in Cena getting cheered honestly.
One thing WCW did right is they made sure they had guys like Sting, Luger, Show, DDP, Goldberg, and Booker T to take it to the next level when Hogan turned heel. It's time Vince sees this and starts building what he has.

Your stance is even more ridiculous than those that are calling for it. Cena will not be their biggest cash cow forever. It happens to every single top guy that has ever existed. He will get turned on by his own fans at some point, be it via age, someone becoming more popular in the same role as him, or finally becoming stale to them. They're not teasing a turn for no reason. It's a great opportunity to reinvent his character and then when he inevitably returns to being a face, they capitalize on that. Its far more likely that Cena turns heel at some point than not. |

A Cena heel turn is feasible as long as they have a replacement. Although Cena has spent the past ten years living and breathing WWE, I doubt there will ever be anybody with his dedication to the WWE.

Another thing I think needs to be brought up is those "Cena kids" that guy most of his merchandise or at least tells their parents they want it. You guys have to think about it, that's where most of his sales come from, the kids. Those kids are getting older and the chances of them sticking with Cena the entire way through is very low. How many of you were actually fans of the good ol babyface from a kid to a teenager and adult? Eventually you grow up and your tastes change. Once those kids hit an age they'll think "you know...Cena's boring compared to this guy" and they'll switch over. Cena will then get older and older and kids won't see him as some "young good looking nice guy" they'll see him as "that older guy who's acting good but he isn't young, awesome and amazing as Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose are" really. It's like Hogan in WCW during the mid-90s, they turned on him and eventually the kids did as well as they got only and they saw through the act.
As those kids get older and find new stars to like, Cena gets older and becomes less appealing to kids in general while the younger stars take that audience. Eventually a time will come where they say "ok Cena's not that guy anymore" and that's when they're stuck at a crossroads. Same thing happened with Hogan, same thing happened with Bret, same thing happened with HBK, same thing happens to all these guys. After 10 years of Cena with his current gimmick I highly doubt it won't happen to him.
It's just a matter of when and a matter of if he's retired by the time it happens.

Anyone who says it will "never" happen need to remember that there were those that were just as sure that Undertaker's streak would never end. For it to happen, WWE needs to be convinced that they have their next top face all lined up as a long term solution. If Reigns, Ambrose, and Ryback all stay healthy and over, they may have faith to do so. If the WWE learn to utilize Ziggler as a Jericho level face that fans are interested in even if he isn't necessarily in the title picture that would help as well. If a guy like Balor or Zayn or Owens comes up and catches fire, that is even more cause to do so. The problem is, turning Cena heel is roughly the same as a tv show killing off a popular character. It's shocking. It makes for good suspense and a sense that anything can happen. It also can kill off a show if the fans don't have anyone else to invest in.
Cena turning heel is absolutely the right thing to happen for a pro wrestling company at this stage. For an Entertainment industry like WWE aspires to be, they won't do it until the risk is at an absolute minimum.
