What would change? It's not quite a "If the Montreal Screwjob never happened" scenario, but I could see it having some implications. I don't think he ever fully recovered after losing the WWE and ECW titles then getting suspended for 30 days.

I think he was WWE champ when he got pulled over. If I remember correctly he lost the WWE title on Raw, then the ECW title the next night on ECW.
I don't think he would have been WWE champion much longer, he would have lost it at the next PPV or the PPV after that. He would have been the ECW champion way longer than he was. Probably would have lost it before December to Dismember than been the top contender until he left.

He was supposed to lose the WWE Title on Saturday Night's Main Event, but they hotshotted the match to RAW so they could suspend him.

Looked it up and I guess he was pulled over July 2, 2006 lost the WWE title on July 3 then the ECW title on July 4. The timeline always confused me a bit (even when it happened) because things happened so quickly one after the other. I edited the OP to prevent further confusion.

Now I have this image of RVD exceeding the spoer limit while wielding a weed eater. And it's pretty great.

Okay, I knew there was something a bit different from him just losing both belts after the arrest. I remembered because it would make sense it he just got caught and then lost both belts as punishment, but I remembered it was a little more complicated than that since he had already been booked to lose the title.

I think it was only ever a one-time, ECW launch nostalgia reign anyway. The incident only made them do it sooner

Sabu was in the car too, and granted he's said he wasn't going anywhere really etc, but hey maybe him and RVD could've been WWE tag-champs or something for a minute. I'm sure RVD having the belt or belts for longer would've given us some great matches.

It's interesting that they were going to take the titles off him so quickly anyways. I remember for a couple months leading to his title win that the commentators were constantly reminding us that he was considered one of the best wrestlers to never win the WWE championship.

He would have dropped the WWE title a little later and held onto the ECW one... Then Sabu would botch something.

It's one of those 'if the waiter had stumbled bringing my drink to the table I may have had to wait an extra 3 minutes to quench my thirst' scenarios. Not really that significant.

He would have probably kept the belt a little longer, though the main difference would have been the ECW title. That said, I actually think Big Show was in many ways the better champion to roll with, anyway.

It was a bit rapid-fire because it made the papers.... and WWE acted pretty quick on this negative publicity. I was at the house show the night he got pulled over. I'd bet he got caught in the same speed trap I did that day There's a short stretch of highway on your way to the arena that's 65-55-65mph. So of course, it's the perfect speed trap.

The brand was suppose to be built around RVD at that point though considering how hard they were attempted to push Bobby Lashley around that time I'd imagine that RVD would've ended up dropping the title to Show just further down the line.
Like I think the only major change would have been a lack of Christian and Tommy Dreamer having their series of matches.

From what I remember, the plan was to have him drop the title at SNME in the triple threat and have a lengthy run with the ECW Championship.

That would've robbed us of legendary Big Show reign. And that was quite possible the most entertaining the big guy has ever been (and I say this as a fan of his)

I'm sure RVD having the belt or belts for longer would've given us some great matches. Vince was said to be very high on Sabu, perhaps not Sandman levels, but his match with Cena was proof of this theory imo. Sabu could have had a better career in the E. Problem with all of the ECW guys who never had great careers outside of ECW always tends to lean toward drug problems. Sabu definitely would have had to clean his shit up, same with a lot of guys. If that suspension doesn't happen, maybe the ECW stuff would have kept RVD around, but I think his intentions we always to leave after contract.

If memory serves the rumor at the time was that they'd do a longterm build to an RVD / Test match with Test getting the title. That in mind, the Big Show thing worked out way better.

As far as the WWE title goes, RVD was never holding it that long. I think at best they would have held off the SMNE title change and kept the 3 way feud going until SS, where I think a fun way to wrap it up would be Cena and RVD fighting for belts on a ladder with Cena grabbing the WWE title and RVD grabbing the ECW, with Edge being angry.
With the ECW title, I dunno. I think the storyline they were pointing to was that Heyman would get pissed at RVD for challenging everyone under the sun and then side with a heel to screw him. Whether it was Big Show or Test, I dunno. Either way I don't see RVD staying beyond mid 2007.
