Wrestler and promoter Bob Geigel passed away today at age 90. He served as president of the NWA for most of the years between 1979 through 1987.
I was not aware that he was still alive and mostly only knew him as being the NWA president back when I first started watching NWA wrestling. He would sometimes be talked about on TV or shown occasionally as a representative of the NWA.

Flair once said that he was one of the worst payoff men in wrestling, second only to Nick Gulas.

Shame. Met him at CA a couple of years back and he was very hard of hearing, his wife was there who was doing a lot of talking for him. RIP.

Bob Geigel is one of those guys we really don't know a whole lot about, unless you lived in the Heart Of America/Central States area. Even during his NWA Presidency days, he was rather reclusive.
Only real sight of the guy just showed incompetence. He was around to participate in the angle that started the Magnum TA/Nikita Koloff "Best Of Seven" series for the US Title, and the Dusty Rhodes attack with a baseball bat, bringing back the Midnight Rider. The aftermath of both made him look like a guy that was siding with the bad guys. (Basically a knock-off version of Jack Tunney.)
But a lot of the old-timers can attest to his wrestling ability. RIP, Mr. Geigel.
