I thought this sounded familiar... I wonder if her "one call, gets it all" policy is still in effect. At $4 a minute, it's certainly no longer 'free'.

Apparently, one had to fill out a form to visit WWF.com in 1997. That's from Archive.org right? The oldest capture Archive.org has for WWF.com is before the site was properly launched. After filling out that form I think you then had to be approved after which you could then check out the beta version of the website.

Expage
Stickdeath
having your ICQ number memorized
Extreme Warfare 9000 (the dos predecessor to TEW that randomized winners and had a crazy death code)
There was this popular program too that my parents paid a monthly fee for that allowed people to leave voice mails and you could chose if you wanted to take the call when you were on dialup so it wouldnt just automatically disconnect you and send there son (me) into a raging fit

Classic Geocitie websites where they would have a random Midi track play when you entered them.

The original PsyPoke website, with it's horribly translated Gold and Silver walkthroughs and poorly written "cheats" and "codes" for "rare Legendary Pokemon." ...I'm sad to admit that I actually tried to beat the game 30 times to unlock New City.

Seeing this post from WWE's chat room hosts when someone broke a rule:
"Attention [user name] your account has been suspended for 15 minutes. STOP NOW, and use this time to review America Online's Terms of Service at Keyword: TOS."

Rotten.com. I remember when that was one of the more shocking things on the internet. Oh how times have changed.

Classic Geocitie websites where they would have a random Midi track play when you entered them. True story, one time while doing research for university I found myself on the League of the South website. They are neo-confederates who want to secede from America They were playing a midi of "Caribbean Blue" by Enya.

This also serves as the most '90's picture ever.

Yes, the MSN chatrooms. I used them for good, I used them for evil. Mostly evil, though. Also the first time I discovered transgender porn sites. And desperately trying to find ways to delete my internet history from my brother, who also used the computer.

Webcrawler I used to get random chats from dudes on AOL chat. It was like craigslist before craiglist. My first email address was on hotmail. Chatrooms were everywhere.

Bret Hart was teaching a computer class? In the words of the Nostalgia Critic "Ah man, how'd i miss that class?" With a tear in our eyes, we graduated from Bret's AOL 410, er, 101 course! My contribution? (New wrestler gimmick) is really Steve DiSalvo!

Good ol' chat rooms. It's amazing how they're almost non-existent now.
I remember back in 1996 I thought LOL meant "lots of love", so when this girl was telling me about how her grandmother was dying, I pissed her off something fierce.
