I recently watched Downloaded on Netflix. It was about the rise and fall of Napster. Didn't really know much about Napster prior to it but it was really interesting!

After I made my original post to start this thread I looked up the trailers for The Thin Blue Line and Brother's Keeper on YouTube and the trailer for Brother's Keeper is interesting. Instead of showing any clips from the doc, it's just Spalding Gray sitting and talking (as Spalding Gray is wont to do) about the movie. Which is probably the epitome of 1990's art house/independent film: Spalding Gray talking plainly about how much he liked an independently made true crime documentary. Hoop Dreams Jesus Camp Those are my top two. I saw both of these (and own Jesus Camp on DVD). Haven't seen Hoop Dreams in twelve years when I saw it in a cultural anthropology course and remember liking it (especially Dick Vitale's speech to some kids at some basketball camp the summer before the two kids featured in the doc matriculate to that prep school they went to (Well, atleast for a while in Arthure Agee's case. Since he eventually transferred to a public school). I really liked Jesus Camp and if you like Jesus Camp I highly recommend Hell House.

If you have the stomach for it:
Deliver Us from Evil. About one of the biggest shitstains on the face of this earth: Father Oliver O' Grady. It also talks about the massive cover up of his crimes by the Catholic Church.

Jodorowsky's Dune, chronicling the avant-garde filmmaker attempt to turn Dune into a major blockbuster. The moments when you get to "see" Dune - Jodorowsky's insanely detailed storyboards set to music - are simply breathtaking. The stories about the people he met along the way - HR Geiger, Dali, Pink Floyd - are great (and often times, hilarious) as well. Currently my favorite film of 2014.
