It has been talked about in the NJPW thread but I felt with his following this could use its own thread.
Best wishes to him.

Two broken necks and another close call or two within the last year. Retire the damn move, AJ.

It's not even like it's a super cool move. It's kind of lame and it injures people-a bad combination for sure.

I feel so bad for the guy, he gets released from the WWE and gets to go back home to a booming NJPW to get his neck broken by someone who I truly believe doesn't give a damn about the safety or well being of others

Oh I was just about to post about this in the New Japan thread.
Yeah this does NOT sound good. All the best to him. I was hoping he'd really get a chance to make a memorable stamp on pro wrestling with this return to New Japan.

www.gfycat.com/HeartyAlienatedHindHere's the GIF. I don't know, there was a discussion of this earlier in another thread, people talking about how AJ hits it faster and more reckless than he used to but this is about the slowest, most safety minded Styles Clash I can remember seeing (slow setup, slow jump). Styles says that he urges people not to tuck their head in during the move with anyone who hasn't taken it yet. I don't know what the disconnect is, once the arms are hooked I don't know where these guys think the move is going to go.

It might be a left over instinct from the Japanese wrestling have for head drop moves. he may have thought it was a head drop bomb variant or something.

The Japanese wrestler mentality is insane. Tomohiro Ishii seems to have the same issue where like, pssh, shoulders, what are they good for anyway. Yeah, broken neck, I'll go easy and wrestle for one night, THEN I'll take some time off. I remember hearing an episode of the Art of Wrestling where Colt Cabana talked about how Yoshitatsu called certain wrestlers Tin Men, because they had no heart.
But yeah, definitely a close call for Yoshitatsu there, hopefully he recovers from that. I do think it's time for AJ to retire the move, especially if he's doing it with people who aren't used to it.

From what I understand, it's one of those moves that, to take safely, you have to do something that goes against what is taught.
Most guys are taught to always tuck their heads in on most every move/fall to minimize head and neck damage. Obviously, with the Clash, you gotta lean it back. But, muscle memory being what it is, instinct sometimes kicks in.

So how many wrestlers has this f***ing idiot injured?
No wonder this stubborn spot monkey never went to WWE.
Hope Tatsu will be okay.

So how many wrestlers has this f***ing idiot injured? No wonder this stubborn spot monkey never went to WWE. Hope Tatsu will be okay. dude 1. he has had thousands of matches and he's done the move thousand times. It's always the opponent's fault they didn't tuck their chin in . in that Yoshi Tatsu match, AJ gives him a full 2-3 seconds to brace himself for face first impact, but still Yoshi tucked his head in (maybe muscle instinct). I agree though AJ needs to drop or change the move 2. He turned down WWE. He's not a spotmonkey. Maybe he was once, but now he's one of the most well rounded and highly regarded wrestlers in the world. It's no coincidence his name being discussed for WOTY on almost all major wrestling sites since leaving TNA I hope Yoshi is fine too

At this point going forward, anyone who still agrees to take it is an idiot.

I don't particularly like the move, but he's been doing it forever, with these injuries just happening like, this year, twice? It's certainly not his fault. I think he should swap it out for something else regardless, mostly because it looks stupid.

I don't know what the disconnect is, once the arms are hooked I don't know where these guys think the move is going to go. Even the question of "never taking the move yet" still has to lead to the question there- considering that Cesaro's Neutralizer is basically the same move as the Styles Clash, you'd assume that Yoshi Tatsu would probably at least know how to take the move (either in training sessions or not, and even if Yoshi Tatsu was far lower on the card, the style of American matches and how homogenized WWE is makes it safe to assume that everyone in WWE knows how to take everyone else's finisher)- so that goes to the same question of whether it was on Styles.

If the only safe way to take a move requires the person taking it to go against their instinct to protect themselves then you shouldn't be using the move. He must know by now that it's probably only a matter of time before he paralyses someone with it.

Every injury from it has been caused by the person taking the move, not by AJ. It's a pretty damn safe move, as long as the person takes it correctly, like most moves in wrestling.
