Out of all the smack down games I still think this one holds up as the best. It has an endless season mode where you can play as anyone! You can make up any team you want, even managers and women. You can compete for any title and if you start your wrestler at the bottom of the ranks it will take a long while for a title shot unlike the other games where its wham bam here's your title... Good stuff, good stuff I say ?

Well you know what I think... While it wasn't quite as good as No Mercy on the 64, it was a very fun arcady wrestling game with a good CAW mode and... A way bigger variety of match types.

The load times made this game unplayable for me.

If it weren't for the load times, I'd probably try playing it from time to time. I loved the hell out of it, and the Christmas I got this and No Mercy at the same time was among my all-time favorites.

I haven't in years but that game got me through a bad depression and long unemployment in 2001. I'll always thank it for that.
I can't remember the load screens but I'm sure they'd kill me today. I was so good at that game that I had to throw matches on whatever the hardest difficulty wast to get the title off me. And the Smackdown that came after was so bad that I continued to play this one until Smackdown 4 (I can never remember the titles).
The only thing I never liked about 2 was having only ten CAW's. But I did understand that it was because of the PSone's limits.

At the time I didn't mind the load screens since I was used to it on PS1.
But yeah, having to simulate every match as well as cut to the back to show that Pat Patterson was here, or that Steve Blackman was satisfied with his win.
This game easily wins for best roster. I thought the continual story mode was fine, especially if you wanted to unlock moves.
I know both Jarret's and Goldust's skins were in CAW...but I don't know why since both were gone by this point and weren't in the first game. And apparently there is a way to unlock Big Show and Shamrock, but I've never seen someone actually do it.

The load times made this game unplayable for me. Ya that's the only big drawback to the game, you can't play the rumble match with the constant pauses..

They're not unlockable per-say, but their code is left dormant in the game (Big Show was in OVW and Shamrock went back to MMA during development) and very rarely, one will pop out by mistake in the Royal Rumble. However, they will appear as an Unknown wrestler and not have their themes.

I really liked the way the season mode worked, I couldn't go back to it though because the gameplay is really rough. But I liked the random story segments even if it was just watching your guy stretch his neck on a chair backstage or "I was told I would have a special opponent tonight, well I am here, who is my opponent" where sometimes you might get lucky and the random sequences might tell some kind of story. Choosing what division to fight for and climbing up the ranks was cool.

Haven't played it in years since my fat PS3 that could play PS1 and PS2 games died, but luckily I found a retro game store and got a PS2 at a good price, so now all I need to do is figure out where I put my PS1 games.

The fun season mode, stacked roster and the fact you can play as the Mean Street Posse make this a must play game even today.

Absolutely loved it. For nostalgia purposes, this is probably my favourite. No Mercy runs it close but I found it tough to control so it made me angry. SD 2 was amazing in its day.

My friends still play it constantly. I've lost count of how many Hell in a Cell matches my best friend has had against Lita or Dean Malenko.

I loved that game as a kid. Played the hell out of it.
I remember flipping out when I accidentally unlocked Austin and HBK through the season mode. I didn't even know you could unlock things in games.

When this game came out, every kid in school seemed to have it, even the non wrestling fans.

I absolutely lived for the Create-A-PPV in this game, and the ranking system for each title was cool. I used to write down all the results and create storylines between each PPV. I probably had a full two years' worth of PPVs. This is what I spent my weekends doing in my early teens. No wonder I wasn't popular in school haha.
