What a few years it's been. Bret Hart came back, made peace with HBK, and made Vince McMahon tap out in the center of the ring. The Ultimate Warrior returned for a Hall of Fame induction and a farewell address to the WWE Universe. Even Bruno "Never. Gonna. Happen" Sammartino was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Brock Lesnar is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Goldberg finally signed off on letting WWE use his likeness for games and other things.
Ric Flair is back in the company's good graces. Hulk Hogan is finally in that ambassador-type position he was always destined for.
And STING gave the Scorpion Death Drop to HHH at Survivor Series.
It's been looking like WWE might finally be on good terms with just about all of their former champions AND MORE.
Fortunately, they fired Alberto del Rio in such an incredibly unprofessional way, they had to pay him off just so he'd *stop talking about it*. They've got Rey Mysterio doing everything in his power to escape the company. And CM Punk, the longest reigning Champion in decades (and THE longest reigning since the company re-branded as WWE) graciously spent 2 hours of his time laying out exactly why he's never coming back.
That's three pretty important names in WWE's history who wouldn't piss on the company if it were on fire. It fills the void not only LEFT by HHH's diplomatic efforts, but resists the gravitational pull of said void by all having HHH, in large part, to thank for their distain towards the company.
I suppose in 2055, after HHH's oldest daughter has retired from her in-ring career, she, and her husband, Turk Lesnar, will be instrumental in getting the three to agree to Hall of Fame inductions.
It's the ciiiiiiiiiiircle of liiiiiiiiife!

Considering the weight of the names mentioned, I think WWE is still in the black here. If Lesnar, Goldberg, Flair, Sting, Bret Hart, Sammartino are cool with WWE they can live with Mysterio, Punk, and ADR have grievances.

Does that mean the McMahon name will disappear, and WWE will be run by the Levesque-Lesnars??

it took years to rebuild some of those bridges. ADR, Rey and Punk may return to the WWE someday just not any time soon. and if they don't, so what? haven't you ever had a job you never wanted to go back to?

As much as these guys might have principal now, when that big fat paycheck comes a knocking, they'll take it.

The "I forgot about a paycheck worth exponentially more than 10,000 dollars" line suggests otherwise, in Punk's case.

Tattoos and comic books aren't that expensive.

Giving way to much cred to Alberto Del Rio who will not be remembered for anything, but the way he left.

I agree with the sentiment in the OP, but Alberto Del Rio isn't an important name in the history of WWE

I don't see it happening. He takes his self-image way too seriously to do anything that would look like he was betraying it.

Let's see if I can break this down:
-ADR: He'll be an afterthought pretty quick.
-Punk: He'll come back, but not for a good long time. Like 5 years. That, or they'll make him the Annon. Raw GM
-Rey: He blew his knee out as I typed this. He wants out, let him out. At this point, he's nothing more than a merch grab and an injury liability

Unless he becomes the next Stan Lee, the comic book gig isn't going to put food on the table for the rest of his life. And it's not like "Talking Dead" is going to be around forever. CM Punk is (kind of) famous and made a decent living because of one thing, and that's professional wrestling. At some point everybody is bound to make amends. Let's see how principled he after 10 or 15 years of life as an average joe.

Del Rios name belongs nowhere near Bruno, Bret or Warrior.

If Punk ever gets the urge to make money from wrestling again, his non-WWE options are limited to "literally every single existing promotion in the known universe" and none of them will schedule him to work a TLC match 3 weeks into a six-week rehab.
