It's the eternal question, and it's pretty simple: which do you prefer? If you're on a desert island and can only have a box-set of one (let's not get into how a DVD player would work on the desert island), which would you choose?
For me, Family Guy no contest. I haven't enjoyed the Simpsons in a long time

Box set as in, like, all the episodes? If nothing else, Simpsons just because that's a lot of good seasons, and pure bulk to choose from, anyway, which I imagine would help a lot on the island.
Not a knock on Family Guy, really, just, it's a hard sell for this hypothetical scenario.

Older episodes like the teacher's strike are amazing, in my opinion.

Gotta say Simpsons, in this situation I have all the episodes? I love both, but the Simpsons has way too many gems, more gems than Family Guy has episodes yet.

Simpsons has a lot of rewatch value, whereas Family Guy doesn't really.

It will always be the Simpsons. Family Guys first run was great. And the Simpsons has gotten beyond bad in the last...twenty years almost? But seasons 3-5 of the Simpsons are something that I can always watch and laugh my ass off.
Even if I am getting a boxed set with close to twenty seasons worth of stuff I have no real interest in to have those three seasons is worth everything.

Perhaps Family Guy just appeals to my silly sense of humour more. I loved the Simpsons at the beginning but it just became about This Week's Celebrity Guest. There's no denying how good the first ten or so seasons of the Simpsons were.

It may be an age thing too. I don't know how old you are but I grew up with the Simpsons. Family Guy came out when I was nineteen. And I did like those first three seasons. It's hard to say how I'd feel about it if it had of a) kept that momentum or b) never came back. I'm seventy-three now and neither really appeal to me. I have no problem saying that I don't like the Simpsons at all anymore save very few episodes since season six.

Family Guy's a guilty pleasure for me, but I can't go against the first seven Simpsons seasons. Whereas every FG season has each had a handful of episodes I died laughing at mixed with a few that missed the mark.

Overall the Simpsons , I've been watching the show since I have any memory- and without it there would be no Family Guy. But currently , FG is the better shows - even though its quality has slipped in the last couple of years

Family Guy has been hit and miss for years while The Simpsons had 9 seasons of pure gold combined with several solid seasons after that.
Simpsons no contest for me.

The worst of the Simpsons is better than the best of Family Guy.

The first 12 seasons of The Simpsons vs The 12 seasons of Family Guy? The Simpsons, easily.
The last 12 seasons of The Simpsons vs The 12 seasons of Family Guy? Family Guy, barely.
I guess that means The Simpsons.

You can say Simpsons had about 200 really watchable episodes, maybe 150 if your not a fan. Family Guy had maybe 70, 50 if your not a fan. And I would also say that the running on fumes Simpsons is better than running on fumes Family Guy, because the latter actively tries to troll the shit out of its audience, and is just a mean show.
And considering we're talking about 50 watchable episodes of Family Guy, I'd probably end up taking alot of other cartoons over it. And I was a huge FG fan, bought the first 3 seasons on DVD, was thrilled when the show came back on the air, but it's comparing a steady decline in the Simpsons to jumping off a building in FG.

a steady decline in the Simpsons to jumping off a building in FG. Do you think so? I just bought Seasons 13 and 14 of Family Guy and laughed my head off. I guess the humour of Family Guy appeals to me, whereas I know a few people who could only take a few episodes of it at a time

I guess the humour of Family Guy appeals to me, whereas I know a few people who could only take a few episodes of it at a time I just tried to watch the episode where Brian gets new teeth and becomes a real estate agent. I literally did not laugh once or even crack a smile. Just shook my head.
