Not on the markout list Plenty of Rounds to impress me . Looking over last Season's thread is a lot of fun. I was one of the judges and there were several rounds where the margin of victory was razor thin.

I am confused. Will people be judging based upon the cultural impact our selections have made? Or how well they like the selections, in either terms of quality or favoritism? Those are two kinda different things.
I am new to this. And can't find where the judging criteria to this.

Those are two kinda different things. I am new to this. And can't find where the judging criteria to this. Well, last Season, I judged ultimately on what I liked the best from the choices. Cultural impact is difficult to measure and not every category will allow for that to play a big factor (say if there was a category based on media released this year, for example). Ultimately, it will be what judges think is best. That said, different judges will reward for different things. A judge could reward for taking risks by picking things that do not immediately come to mind for a category, while another judge could be more of a traditionalist, rewarding choices that immediately come to mind. For me, I skewed towards things that were a little more obscure last Season.

Another thing to consider is that, unless our esteemed host changes things, media can only be used once in a standard round. So, anything that has been chosen so far? It can't be used again unless a round stipulates that it's legal.

To tip my hand a little bit as well, I will be looking at this from the aspect of "What Would Jazzman Do" or would have done. Therefore I will be judging on what made me mark out the most in the round, but things such as unexpectedness, cultural impact, and other minutiae will come into play as well. I will also likely keep a running commentary of judging comments in the thread to give ya'll explanations.

I will also likely keep a running commentary of judging comments in the thread to give ya'll explanations. This is generally how I score too. Though it's not always exactly like this. If someone is obviously pandering for points, I roll my eyes a bit as a judge. Not saying people don't like their pick, but for instance, if a category is "Songs from the 70s," I'm going to pick (and hope someone picks) a song that kicks -a- that I didn't think of or is the awesome pick less likely rather than going straight for "Bohemian Rhapsody." (No offense to people picking a good song, but if someone were to pick Cheap Trick "Surrender", then it freaking wins by a landslide because you just went more unique and had to dig slightly deeper than "Bohemian Rhapsody," plus I just marked my butt off. Hard to mark for Bohemian Rhapsody, because everyone thinks of it.) Make sense???

And to clarify, EVERYONE wants points and to pick things that resonate with judges. So when I say "pander," Bohemian Rhapsody is just an example. There always "popular," well-known things that I'm going to mark out for. I think what I mean is that timing is big too. (More on this after judges judge. Remind me and I'll explain what I mean. I nearly wet myself over one pick. It was so well thought out. How could I not mark out???)

In case anyone is wondering, my rankings are in. Real tough to place around 5-15 in the category and could have gone any number of ways on a different day. A little disappointed in the bonus round answers to be honest, but some were really good.

My rankings are in as well. As far as the Openings are concerned there was nothing that was outright terrible, making for some really difficult decisions. I must have changed the rankings of 5 through 8 at least four or five times. As for the Captions...Eh...

Yeah, I'll admit I didn't have much for the caption but I feel like my intro was a solid pick.

Three judges still. A 10-point gap is all that separates 2-8.
7-point gap is all that's separating 10-16.
NOTE: Something I can go ahead and announce now is that your lowest ranking among the four judges will be discarded. This is going to keep a three-judge total each round for you with the goal of keeping each round more closely knit. Fewer points mean fewer gaps in points, we hope. Also, a more consistent figure might be rewarded. Several times we've seen rankings of 1-1-3-17 (grand total 22) on games like this and that pick loses to 2-6-8-5 (grand total 21). Ummmm, no. Not here. Rogue judge can't hurt you if that ever comes up. The rogue judge won't be called out as to how low they ranked you. Just will be replaced with a zero placeholder. So the 17 above will just appear as a zero and the 8 above will be replaced with a zero. The 8-judge wasn't really a rogue ranking, but the zero placeholder doesn't draw ire toward the 17-judge. (Yeah, you can figure it out within a range once all judges rankings are revealed, I realize, but it's not a wagging finger at any judge this way.)

Enjoyed the heck out of these picks.

I read this as the standings originally. First thought that came to my head before I realized it wasn't the standings: "How in the f*** did suave place higher than me?!"

I notice that my choice is the one highlighted there.
I'll take that as a good sign.
