Since judges are in, I'll explain my choice real quick.
In addition to being hilarious satires of different genres of film, the "previews" are an incredibly efficient way of establishing the four main characters.
It's a prime example of why I feel Tropic Thunder is the most well made comedy in decades, it's not as flashily directed as the works of Edgar Wright, perhaps, but it's such a well constructed, smartly designed film and the fake trailers are the prime example of the expert craftsmanship that went into it.

"Ohhh, beeautiful, for spaaacious skies For amber waves of grain..."Mr. B: I love this song. It reminds me of Amber Stevens. MGH: Amber Stevens? That's an obscure reference. Jonathan Michaels: Ooh, ooh. Don't tell me! Lemme think.. Mr. B: Sure, go ahead. Jonathan Michaels: Ummm... The girl from the one-night-stand scene in 22 Jump Street? Why her? MGH: Wow, how'd you know th- - - Mr. B: No! No! She was in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. It doesn't get more American than that movie! The song was practically named for her! MGH: Huh? She was in that? Mr. B: Duh! She played the role of Cheerleader 1! How could you not know that? Jonathan Michaels: Am I the only one confused by how a movie subtitled Tokyo Drift and filmed in Singapore could be any more American? Mr. B: Fast cars! Horrible plots! Come on, dude! The director might as well have been a hot dog vendor and the closing credits simply a picture of an apple pie! As the contestants lined up for PopCultureMania, a few scowls crossed the competitive faces of those not from the United States. Z-A: It's criminal how they don't play our countries' folk songs at these events. Waffel: Dude, aren't you American? Z-A: Yeah. So? The ring announcer took his place center stage and welcomed the crowd. The most haphazard, wild, forced pop culture extravaganza was about to get underway. The competitors' opening statements were heard and the crowd marveled at what they witnessed. This was undoubtedly an Opening Night no one would forget.Suddenly, the emcee for the evening cartwheeled into the ring from beneath a heap of street garbage. Four front row fans could not contain their excitement and spontaneous combustion was had by all.Let's Get It StartedThe results are in and we have some tight races in the first round. Our bonus points for the evening ... In one of our many Live Challenges, three players showed that winning a spot among the top three can make a difference in such a tightly knit pack. Coming up with 12 big points to catapult into a dominant position right off the bat... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}fw91!!!! "We did it!....... WE FOUND CARMEN SANDIEGO!..........She's in Budapest, speaking at the World People's Against Bowties summit" Coming in 2nd place in the live challenge, with 7 points it's... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}PINK SHIRT MOD! "The launch of the Anti Cornell site is a go" And the 3rd place winner in the Live Challenge, taking a slight boost to a highly competitive round... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}HAWK JEFFERSON!!! 39 dicks later, everyone in the Office was still really excited about their first time on ChatRoulette And now, our results ... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} REMEMBER, YOU HAVE FIVE ROUNDS BEFORE ELIMINATION! This was just our Opening Night act. Plenty of time to rebound, and a new round will be coming tonight. Stay tuned and check in later.

Well one judge really liked my pick, at least. I'll consider that a victory.
Admittedly that was the best version of the clip I could find. Actually it was the ONLY clip.

I flipped my *%#^ for several of these picks. Really really clever lines of thinking, so thank you for that. And the straightforward, epic type picks resonated with me well also. All around great jobs in my opinion!
When the MTV pick was turned in, my water broke. Clever dude. Completely encapsulated the round and skewed the description that I gave in really unique way. I dug it big time.

Likely not the best pick to start with. J liked it though, but then he always likes what i choose, it seems. Still, the scene makes sense with rest of the film/movie. Plenty of rounds left, though.

The results aren't showing up for me, just a broken image link.
EDIT: Never mind, I can see them now. Tied for fifth. Not an awful start and plenty of time to make up for it.
And yeah, I figured it was my pick you were referring to earlier, Peg, based off your reaction when I sent it in. I figured there were going to be a lot of movie and TV show clips, so I wanted to do something a bit different for this one.

The Six Feet Under pick was the greatest thing I've ever seen. I had forgotten about that and after it started I was marking. Fantatic pick! Also the mtv pick... My two biggest mark outs.

Thoughts on Round 1 follow... A really good way to get us underway.
1) George Carlin: I was asking to maybe get a slam poetry category for this season. No need now because nothing will top this. Absolutely brilliant.
2) Lion King: If you didn't yell out "AH ZABENYA" with the video... well I don't want to be around you. Mark out to the max.
3) CSI: Miami: Irreverence at it's highest point, CSI: Miami was always at it's best when it turned into parody. This was perfect and super unexpected.
4) Star Wars: The opening scene I would have gone with in all honesty. Iconic and memorable. Awesome choice.
5) MTV: Historical content goes off the charts for this one. Awesome out of left field choice.
6) 6 Feet Under: Very few shows do dark comedy as good as Six Feet Under and that's my kind of humor. Great pick.
7) Harry Potter: Minimal take here but beautifully executed. If this was any other round it would have ranked right near the top, but is so strong.
8) Ghostbusters 9) Nightmare on Elm Street: Grouping all three of these together because they are all iconic within their realms and helped them in rounding out the top 10. 10) The Spy Who Loved Me
11) Pulp Fiction: Would have loved a different Tarantino opening scene as two spring to mind right away. Not a bad pick, just not my favorite Tarantino opening
12) High Fidelity: Again, another decent choice but in this round decent just wasn't going to work well
13) Tropic Thunder: Honestly, I hate Tropic Thunder. Like hate it with a serious passion. But the trailers are all nifty and I have no doubt I would watch the shit out of Satan's Alley, so that saves it from the bottom.
14) 2000 Olympics: You see what I said above about Pulp Fiction, it goes double for this pick. The opening of Olympics can be great, this one was just kinda meh, so it comes in near the bottom
15) Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are dead: Violates one big rule I have for openings, after watching this clip I chuckled, but I wouldn't have cared to have seen the rest of the film, so it kinda violates what I see as the purpose for openings.
16) Batman: TAS: No doubt this episode is the show's best episode, but this opening left me wanting because it was generically average as an opening.
17) Kingdom Hearts: Never been a fan of Square Enix, never liked RPGs, and this opening doesn't really set the tone for the game and only confused me... it's bottom for that reason
As far as the caption contest, whoever came up with the Dodge Dart reference got my vote to finish top... so that's something.

==================================================================== ====================================================================It's 11:59 and 59 seconds. This happened on YouTube today ...Looks like Mom was sure put in her place. And to think, all that over forgetting to put the potty seat down. Contestants, what was your surprise reaction to this future poster child of Teen Oz? Jeff Magnum PI: The biggest revelation to come out of that? Who knew Webster drank Sprite? Mason2K: The Curious Case of Chris Brown. Pink Shirt Mod: When that kid hits puberty, he's going to make an excellent grandfather. Welcome to World Series of Pop Culture Round 2! It's @midnight!---------------------------------------------------------------------- We've all witnessed goosebump moments that struck a chord with us when one of our favorite characters reaches a point you'd never thought they'd reach. That Moment When...That Moment When...(This round may include a selection from any pop culture medium of your choosing.)Contestants, for Round 2, your task is to choose a representative moment that features an epiphany or coming-of-age moment. This can be a character's moment of realization, a life-changing or life-altering moment, or a "coming of age"/growing up moment. As always, feel free to be creative and push the envelope. As stated, any medium of pop culture can be used, as long as it fits the theme of the round. Since it has already been used, an example could be Simba in The Lion King presented by his father to the animal tribes in the birthing rite of passage. Another example might be, "No. I am your father." (-Star Wars). Remember that previously used Round 1 films, TV shows, songs, video games, etc. are off the table and ineligible to be chosen for this round. (That's why I used them as examples.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- And it's also time for the Live Challenge! This round's challenge is the following: #HASHTAG WARS #HASHTAG WARS The challenge is simple at first glance, but requires some wit and cleverness to fulfill its potential. I create a Hashtag (a topic) and you guys give a response that you think fits the heading/topic. (See image above as an example.) Sticking with our theme of the round, tonight's Hashtag is #RuinAChildrensCharacterExamples might include: Skunky Brewster, Spongebob Not A Banana in My Pants, Optimus Meh, or Strawberry Snortcoke Everyone is on the clock. Be funny and witty and I'll be interested to see what you come up with. Again, the idea is to take a Children's Character and rename it in such a way that undermines, ruins, belittles, or undervalues it. (Any questions just ask. Lots of freedom. See my examples above to get the right idea, or watch a Hashtag Wars clip on YouTube.) Also of importance is that I will not ask you to choose another pick if someone else targets the same character you thought of. These are supposed to be off-the-cuff, so Live Challenge responses are taken as is. Judges will be asked not to penalize you if you happen upon a really funny response and someone else chooses the same character by chance. As in Round 1, First Place gets 12 points, Second Place gets 7, and Third Place 3. Good luck in Round 2!

Six Feet Under intros are GOLDEN! That and the theme song totally makes that show! Black comedy upper echelon stuff right there. Well done. ...Unfortunately, I thought the polar opposite. I'm not a fan of black comedy, so that clip didn't do anything for me at all. One good thing about the bottom score being dropped. Judges can still be themselves and contestants can still try new things. I don't think I've created the perfect scenario, but it's a relief that everyone--judges and players--can feel like they won't be completely vilified by the other round-to-round (a complaint in previous games sometimes). I dig that so far.
