Does he actually know a martial art? He's been training with the Gracies for 3 or 4 years now. Not sure about anything else.

Are we seriously seeing a veiled "Pro wrestlers aren't as tough as MMA fighters!" thread right now? It's not like he's going to be competing above his weight class, he had BJJ training before he left WWE and there's no telling how much more he's done since he left. He's got a shot at being a decent competitor but no, let's write him off on account of sour grapes. No sour grapes, just being realistic. I don't see how judging how well he will or won't do before we even see a training video is realistic but maybe I'm just an optimist. Punk strikes me as a pretty tough individual with a lot of drive and focus, I don't see how he won't see at least a modicum of success in this field if he goes all in. Then again, UFC has been handing sweetheart fights to guys they wanna promote anyway so Punk will likely fight a bunch of jabronis until UFC can justify giving him a title shot.

He said he'll fight at either welterweight or middleweight. He was billed at 218 in WWE. So he was probably realistically around 200. Wonder how he's going to pull this off. Feels like a disaster waiting to happen.

This honestly should devastate any credibility or legitimacy UFC might claim. I mean come on this is 100% joke. Awesome joke, such is pro wrestling, but joke.

Atleast Kimbo Slice had some actual sanctioned MMA fights before being signed as a publicity stunt.
This.....what is this even?

I don't think this will end as badly as most seem to think. Punk and Dana White aren't fools, Punk will all the time he needs and be fed a can to start, it is fight 2 or 3 when he has to step it up that it'll be interesting to see what he does. Then even if he loses, so what? He lived a dream and goes back to sitting on his couch in Chicago and catching Cub and Blackhawk games. Just like Apollo Creed was supposed to just have a fun exhibition match with Drago...

The UFC has been struggling for awhile now. Almost all their champs were injured simultaneously. Buyrates and ratings are down. They're desperate for some new eyeballs. I'd venture Punk, while certainly going to be in over his head, will give them a boost for his first fight.

What kind of MMA sporting league brings in CM Punk and kicks out Jake Shields? One that's way more work than shoot.

Good luck. Will be odd if he competes as 'CM Punk' in the Octagon.
