Well, UFC has gone full PRIDE now. It's like they saw Bonnar Vs. Ortiz and said to themselves. "We can out-ridiculous that."

Are we seriously seeing a veiled "Pro wrestlers aren't as tough as MMA fighters!" thread right now? It's not like he's going to be competing above his weight class, he had BJJ training before he left WWE and there's no telling how much more he's done since he left. He's got a shot at being a decent competitor but no, let's write him off on account of sour grapes. With his injuries, no MMA experience, or amateur wrestling, it doesn't look good for him. And I'll ask why is that a big deal? Yeah I'd love to see him succeed but he's knows what he is getting into. He wants to live a dream and fight in the Octagon so he made it happen. I really doubt he's going into this thinking he's going to hit Silva with the Kenta Combo and lock in the Anaconda Vise. He wants fight, win or lose because it is a goal/dream of his. On top of that, if he loses, the inexperienced pro wrestler lost a real fight. He wins, the inexperience pro wrestler just won a real fight. Either way, he gets what he wants. I just don't see the reason for the doom and gloom. Did Vince's thoughts on women's MMA suddenly taint the board? I just don't get it.

Quick, who is the UFC's version of Ryback and how quickly will Punk tear him to shreds on a podcast over a couple of accidents?

Funny I dont remember Batista, Lashley, or Brock failing without much experience and even someone like Del Rio was fairly successful so I dont see why Punk cant be decent. Dana White already said he would pit him against someone at his level meaning 0-0 if he signed.

Here's hoping he will still come out to Cult of Personality I would bet that he can. They pretty much exclusively use popular music. He might want another theme to differentiate from his time in WWE.

The UFC has been struggling for awhile now. Almost all their champs were injured simultaneously. Buyrates and ratings are down. They're desperate for some new eyeballs. I'd venture Punk, while certainly going to be in over his head, will give them a boost for his first fight. Oh yeah, as a show, great move. As a sport, it's nonsense. What kind of MMA sporting league brings in CM Punk and kicks out Jake Shields? One that's way more work than shoot. As disastrous as this can turn out for him, let's face it. This is one ballsy move and I got nothing but respect for the man for trying it out at 36. Obviously, starting somewhere on a lower tier would have made more sense, but the money for both sides is too good to pass up. And every MMA fan knows, if it wasn't Dana, it would have been Bellator going all in here.

Dana White already said he would pit him against someone at his level meaning 0-0 if he signed. Batista had one fight. Lashley and Brock had actual wrestling experience in college. And Del Rio's only wins were against a bunch of noobs. Jiu Jitsu or not, the guy sure as hell wasn't training to became a mixed martial artist at all, so if he has to go up against someone who actually has been, lack of experience or not, I expect him to get his ass kicked.

Kind of a pathetic move from the UFC simply because CM Punk has no competitive experience. It's clearly a publicity stunt in response to their waning popularity. He has no experience and doesn't even know what weight class he's going to fight at. Yet he made it to "the big show". Guys like Brock and Lashley were high level wrestlers and they been doing that their entire lives...and they were competitors in that field at the highest level.
Phil trains BJJ for a few years but of course never competed in that either. A lot of these guys, even the lame guys have trained BJJ or their base martial art for most of their lives. Punk has trained BJJ for 3-4 year? i've trained longer than that. I'm not about to go get my ass kicked in the UFC.
The only thing worse than brining in CM Punk is bringing in the caliber fighters it will take for him to get a win. Whether is be old guys who stopped being able to compete years ago or pretty much 0-0 tough guys who aren't martial artists.

Dana White already said he would pit him against someone at his level meaning 0-0 if he signed. Expect Brock was a former DV1 NCCA wrestling champion and had been training for 3 years before his UFC debut, not to mention Batista fought a can with a terrible record and both Lashley and Del Rio have only won against nobodies. The thing is with Punk no one is doubting that he could beat a soup can but against a credible fighter his chances aren't so great.

Punk is pretty much a confirmed hypocrite now. He gets to go right to the big stage with no fighting experience at all. While he'd always bitch & complain in WWE about the old guys always coming back taking a spot, now he's pretty much taking up a spot that could have gone to a guy with actual fighting experience.
