I did have a thought, though Hogan's ego would never allow him do it. Say Hogan was to do a match at Wrestlemania next year, he passed the medical et al. How about if they had Hogan saying he can't do it anymore, he's too broken down, brother. He's just here to help the young dudes. But a heel beats down Hogan or maybe Hogan is forced to wrestle by an authority figure. It could be a pretty neat "Rocky Balboa" kind of storyline where Hogan has to dig down deep one last time. He could even reference his back surgeries and say he can't even do his finish anymore. Then have the match be a brawl and have the, in real life and in kayfabe, severely limited Hogan have the fight of his life but just come up short. It would be neat to have him training ala Rocky. If they did this and put him against a monster heel who spent the match beating him from pillar to post, the hulking up spot would almost assuredly be one of the biggest pops in history. Man I wanna see this now. I sent the idea to Hogan on twitter, not that it'll do anything, but still. Hogan could Hulk up in one last desperate attempt. He tries his new finisher (axe bomber), but the guy kicks out, maybe he teases that he's going to go for the legdrop, but he is hesitant. He already said in promos his back is screwed up and he can't hit it anymore. Before Hogan can do it the heel hits Hogan with a finisher, or preferably a submission so Hogan does not have to bump and its more dramatic.

Hogan's path from Wrestlemania III to Summerslam 1989 was the greatest storyline in wrestling history, and yes, it was a single narrative. - Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura get into Andre's ear and make him jealous of Hogan - Andre turns on Hogan and challenges him to a title match at Wrestlemania III - Hogans wins the match but Andre is still pissed, and their respective teams face each other at the first ever Survivor Series - Ted Dibiase wants to buy the WWF title, and recruits a still bitter Andre to get it from him - Andre and Dibiase screw Hogan out of the title with the Hebner twin - Jack Tunney declares this to be bullshit, and holds the tournament at Wrestlemania IV - Dibiase and Andre try some shit again, but Hogan stops it. Macho wins the title. Hogan gropes Elizabeth - The groping continues for months until Macho finally has enough and turns on Hogan - Hogan beats Macho at Wrestlemania V for the title - An embittered Macho hooks up with Sherri and recruits Zeus to destroy Hogan - Hogan finally kills Zeus at Summerslam 1989 using Sherri's purse. Elizabeth adds insult to injury by cutting off Sherri's weave. But, that's just the beginning. What we have identified as the Hogan Saga was really just the prequal to the Elizabeth Saga, which didn't end until she got her boobs enlarged and wrestled Rhonda Singh on Nitro in camouflage pants.

In a sense, Macho's story DID originate from that
After Summerslam 89, Sherri corrupted him even further, leading to him thinking of himself as a king. This lasted another year until Elizabeth was finally able to snap him out of it and redeem him, thus bringing them both full circle.

THIS IS WHERE THE POWER LIES!
Or the promo where he looks and acts like he's about to hand over the WWF title because Ted DiBiase offered him anything for it, then flips out and bellows "HELL! NOOOOOOO!"

I just recently watched his first match with Flair in WCW, damned enjoyable. It was odd to see him so skinny and mobile, made for a great first encounter

Weirdly enough, I learned to appreciate Hogan more as I got older. My guys when I first started watching were Savage, Flair, Undertaker, Bret Hart and Piper, they seemed different and cool- whereas while I never had an issue with Hogan, he was just kinda "there" as a standard bearer in my eyes.
About 12 or so years later was when I really began to look at him in his prime, and the dude was bringing it both in Japan and the US. His moveset was basic but there were few (if any) back then who could whip up crowds and put on matches as exciting as him.

Saw a match between Hogan and Muta on YouTube recently. Anyone who thinks Hogan couldn't wrestle should watch it. They are entirely wrong.

And doubters of Austin watch WCW, or preferably his 2001 heel run: Superplexes, belly to back suplexs, snap spinebusters, AA spinebusters, STF's, Russian legsweeps, piledrivers, Sunset flips, boston crabs, firemans carry take overs, arm breakers, milion dollar dreams Oh and Stunners. All with great heel psychology

I loved his WM3 promo on Andre, he really knew how to get people emotionally invested into the storyline.
He was larger than life and had such a presence. I don't know if a guy like Kerry Von Erich could've replaced him as the top face in the 80's as rumored if Hulk didn't come over.

Hogan's promos were equal parts cheesy and pure magic. I have a particular soft spot for his Mania 6 promo. He was the true "Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment".

While you're not going to mistake him for Kobashi, he holds his own and works more than enough stuff into his moveset that he rarely did in the US. Really, though, anybody who thinks Hogan can't work is fooling themselves. The guy is able to make any crowd in the world come unglued by even the littlest things. The Japanese fans in that Muta match sound like they're just as happy and excited to see Hogan as they would be anywhere.

My childhood hero. Will always love him with a genuine affection. The biggest attraction wrestling has ever known. Yup. I don't give a rat's as what he's (supposedly) done backstage, he could walk out to Real American with a red and yellow walker, and I would still mark like a 7 year old.

The promo where he talks about selling the belt to Dibiase and how easy that would be, how it make his life easier, make his family's life better, but that his principles just wouldn't allow him to. Hogan talked a lot of shit in his 80s promos, but that promo is a work of absolute perfection.

Watched his match with Flair at BATB '94 last night. It's been a while since I've seen it, and I was really surprised by just how good it was. You could tell during the introductions that Hogan was motivated and there to work. The match was just super entertaining from beginning to end, and it didn't hurt that the crowd was into it and Schiavone/Heenan were doing a great job calling the match. When it was over, I thought that Hogan had outworked Flair and it was a breath of fresh air to see him holding the strap, even though if I were voting I would have voted for Flair.

I think this is it with Hogan, looking back with nostalgia at defining moments, he's fantastic, he is Pro-Wrestling. But would we be saying the same if this was 1990 and we'd just spent nearly a decade with Hogan being involved in everything? I mean, people complain about Cena these days but back then it was only the same with Hogan where you knew that pretty much any push, big storyline or new heel would eventually come around to benefit Hogan in one shape or form. I can totally agree that Hogan on his day was fantastic, perhaps the best ever and seeing him do his thing in his prime stirs up nostalgia like no other but there's also a lot of times when you're just thinking 'get off the screen, let someone else have the limelight for 10 seconds!'
Having said that, if I come across any piece of merch from the eighties or nineties with Hogan's face on it's pretty much sold the second I touch it, so maybe I'm the one that's talking out of my arse really. One way or another, there will never be another Hulk Hogan.

I think it's just the difference in looking at him through the eyes of a child vs. the eyes of an adult. I still vote against him, but I'm really in awe now of just how good he was. His matches are a lot of fun to watch. He is the quintessential pro wrestler to me - entertaining in all the right ways, and always polarizing.

He outgrew wrestling. And not in a Dwayne Johnson way where there was a discernible talent you could take and go do something with like acting - Hogan couldn't act. God knows he tried, but he couldn't. He's unique in that he became bigger than wrestling through wrestling alone. I don't think you can say that about anyone else. He's to wrestling what McDonald's is to fast-food. You might not like it or think that it's done more harm than good in the world - but it is what it is. The colour scheme is eerily similar too as it goes.
HHH said it best himself - no matter who comes and goes there'll never be another Hulk Hogan. And there won't be. He was a mainstream star who defined an era and spanned the generations. That's not happening again. My 7 year old nephew who barely watches wrestling, knows who Hulk Hogan is and poses like Hulk Hogan and dresses as Hulk Hogan. The mark that man has left on multiple generations won't ever be replicated.

Loved the cage match with Flair at Halloween Havoc '94 when I was really little.
