Just like my SF Vs. MK thread, this thread will decide which of these games is the best of all time, ending all arguments on the internet forever. These two lauded games in the Final Fantasy series have two of the most memorable villains of all time in any RPG, or otherwise. First up, is a highly original evil clown. He has one of the most memorable laughs in gaming history. He poisons children and kills innocent people just because he's a bit insane. He has sand in his boots but is not a waiter. It's Kefka! His deadly, fearsome opponent loves his mum. His sword is as big as he is with Cait Sith standing on his head. He looks damn good in leather. He impaled a giant snake on a stick, and killed our beloved Aeris/Aerith. It's Sephiroth!

Call it unfair, but the sprite based art has allowed VI to age better than VII, at least in my opinion.

VI all the way for me, and it's not even close.
Not that I dislike VII, it just has steep competition in my eyes.

VI, but there might be games in the series I prefer to both.

I like both games a lot, but to me, it's sort of like comparing pizza and fried chicken. Sometimes I am in the mood for one more than the other.
I give Final Fantasy VI the edge, but Final Fantasy VII and the bombing mission run is one of the best openings of any game, ever, especially at the time, of creating a sense of scale.

VII. I play it at least once a year, VI I've only played through two or three times.

Gonna have to go VI on this. I really don't like the FF series by any stretch, but there's no denying how great that one is.

Final Fantasy VI is about as close to video game perfection as you can get, The Story, The Characters, The Music are all superb and the customizable magic system and totally non linear second half of the game were way ahead of its time.
Final Fantasy VII is a fine game in its own right, but for me personally I didn't get that same sort of oomph factor that I got with VI although might have been due to the fact by the time I got VII I already knew most of the major plot points of the game thanks to internet spoilers so they didn't have the same impact. Whereas I went into VI blind and enjoyed watching the story more because I didn't know what was going to happen.

VI, it's the pinnacle of not just the series, but of video games.

Both are great games, but I like the story and characters in VII a lot more so they just squeak it out. TBH, I'm a bigger fan of VIII through X.

I actually never played VI, but I only thought VII was alright. VIII was much better, imo.

The only Final Fantasy games I've finished were VI and IX.
As a whole, I think I got a better all around experience with IX, but I was completely engrossed with VI the entire time, as well.
IX had so many nods to past games, it may as well have been X for all the franchise nods.

While I'd love yet another remake of Final Fantasy IV (The major 3DS remake was darn good), VI-IX all deserve some graphically enhanced updates.

VI takes it in a first round TKO and and teabags VII's corpse.

I will always say that VII is probably the best Final Fantasy but not my favorite. I do prefer VI. VII just looks terrible today, as opposed to VI which just looks old.
For the record, XII is my favorite..
If we're just on the villian it's Kefka too. He actually succeeds in his goal of destroying the world.

Dammit, I love every bit of that game.
