I really wonder about the buyrate this received. I read how in 1989, the WWF did a PPV special in which they showed the movie "No Holds Barred" and right after the movie, a steel cage tag match with Hogan and Beefcake vs. Savage and Zeus. I guess the WWF was hurting for money because the movie flopped at the box office.

Also, that cage match was about 2 weeks old.

Kind of a cool idea though. Filming a main event you know you don't have the restraints of a live taping with, and attaching it to a movie starring the participants as an undercard. If you hadn't seen it and were a Hogan fan, it sure sounds like a way to make a movie coming to pay-per-view a full-fledged event.

No way I was asking my pop to pay for that crap and seeing my hero buried yet again.

I saw it, but since we didn't buy the PPV because the late 80's and early 90's were awesome, they didn't get the cash, but I saw the PPV for sure.

I watched it. I was a Hogan fanatic as a kid, so of course I did. My uncle Don watched every PPV and just about every weekly TV show.
As a side note, it makes me feel old whenever I see someone writing about something that happened "back in 1989." Of course, that was 25 years ago, so it makes sense that people could talk about it like that, but I can't help but think, "What do you mean? I watched that live and was old enough to remember it! I can't have been that long ago!"
Then I do the math.

I really wonder how many buyrates this received. I guess the WWF was hurting for money because the movie flopped at the box office. Was it just a one-off special, or was it with every showing of No Holds Barred on PPV (since movies do show up far more than PPVs.)

I believe just a one off special, though like today PPV was repeated a lot. They spent a lot of time hyping it during Survivor Series that year.

I really wanted that PPV, but we didn't get it. I loved that movie as a kid though. It was great. Now not so much. I tried to watch it not too long ago, and it was just horrible.

It was mentioned in one of the Apter mags. I repeat my question The people that read Apter mags. Which considering how many of them there were at the time was a pretty decent amount of wrestling fans. Granted not nearly as many as it would be now with the internet. But stuff like that still spread like wildfire

Granted not nearly as many as it would be now with the internet. But stuff like that still spread like wildfire I remember picking up Apter mags when I'd go to the store with my mom when I was 7-10 years old. I had to have all the damn wrestling magazines that were out there and that was 98-01. The knowledge of and readership of those magazines isn't/wasn't nearly as low as Boo! is trying to make it out to be, especially back in the late '80s, early '90s.

I had a ton of Apter mags that my aunt gave me from the 80's. I cut all the pictures out of them, so my Apter mags pretty much looked like someone stapled together the contents of a paper shredder.

I had every Apter mag from 1990 until 93 or so... Even some new wave wrestling's. Whatever wrestling mag I could find every month. Such good memories.
