Manhunt 2 is still sold on Steam with an AO rating. The game looks interesting, showing true reactions to the violence of video games instead of the cartoonish-esque we see in most other games. Neither of the Manhunt games are available to purchase on Steam and Steam has never carried an Adults Only rated game.

Well, Manhunt 1 was rated M anyways so it's legal. It also doesn't show up for me even when using Hola (checked US & Canada) and the discussion page for it doesn't even have an option to access the store. Manhunt 2 was never made available for purchase on steam because Valve does not want to sell Adults Only rated games on their storefront.

GTA San Andreas for example.

Tough one. If the distributors didn't feel it was in line with their interests that is their business. They understand the risk in passing on it and accept the fiscal loss. I'm fine with that. I wouldn't play this nor would I allow my children to. But, I'm not someone else's moral judge. So unless it's some absolute evil Schitt, I'm not going to say ban it or unless it has really gotten out of hand I won't say legislate it. The old controversy about video games and violence is not going away. My stance is the industry does not cause predilection toward violent behavior, sexism, racism etc. en masse. I do believe there are some very rare cases where yes, movies, TV , music and even video games may shape someone who is unstable, but by no means would that be the stand alone root cause if that unstable person committed violence. We get caught up in this Everytime and we are marks for it. It is cable news and Internet drive by headlines designed to cause a Schitt storm and get clicks/views for their page or channel. They count on the debate and stir the pot

the 2005 date is when it was released on PC.
It might not actually have been put on steam until 2008.
After all X-com Terror from the deep wasn't put on steam Apr 1, 1995... even though that's listed as it's release date.
edit: Yeah, if you search for san andreas it gives the date of January 4, 2008 as the day it was added to steam, but it's release date is listed as : Jun 6, 2005
If you search for terror from the deep it lists a 2007 date on the search results.

I don't particularly like the idea of a school shooting video game but I'm not the type to get on a stage and shout "I DON'T LIKE THIS SO BAN IT" like a lot of people are.
Glad the game has been released.

I've been reading about the whole Hatred controversy lately and it's weird seeing people in their 20's wanting to see a game banned.
When the hell did we become our parents!?

I'd play it just to see what the fuss is about.
Honestly, I've played plenty of violent video games in my life. Other than my middle school and high school years, I haven't exhibited many violent tendencies. I've managed to separate what happens in a video game from what happens in reality. I use video games like GTAV to blow off steam but I would never consider doing those acts in real life.

Really? This is gonna be the first AO game that Steam sells? Why the hell is this game the hill that they want to die on?

I stopped taking gamers' (as a community) opinions on morality in games seriously when many Mass Effect 3 players chose to exterminate the 17 million Quarians because they're "douchebags" or the Geth are "cooler."
Not that I'd touch this game, as I find the premise repugnant, but yeah, I'm a little incredulous at the people being so staunchly against a brutal but small-scale game when there's other games where people so casually commit mass genocide.

Pixels can not be killed. There's no violence in any video game. Baloney. Mario is literally crushing the skulls of those Goombas, in full view of the player. It's kinda morbid if you think about it.

Really? This is gonna be the first AO game that Steam sells? Why the hell is this game the hill that they want to die on? Why does it bother you so much that they sell whatever they feel like selling? I also don't see how it's "the hill they want to die on". It's not like they're passionately defending or promoting the game. They're just allowing to sell it on their platform.

I like that the tags include "Family Friendly" and "Anime". I love the Steam tag system.
