I've never played either one, and for my Christmas present to myself I was considering picking up the X/X-2 remaster for my Vita. I want to know your opinions on it, what's good, what's bad, etc.

I liked the gameplay and loved they story. I had both on PS2 and have the HD set for PS3 and don't regret it.

Well, to pimp my own thread. Final Fantasy XFinal Fantasy X-2tl;dr I just did a playthrough of X this past summer and I really enjoyed it. The gameplay was good (albeit a little grating), most of the characters were good, the story was nice, the setting was really beautiful and the music was fantastic. Some people didn't like the Sphere Grid levelling system but I had no problems with it at all. On the negative; the game is very linear. Not as bad as XIII (because you can go backwards and there are a few times where you can choose path "c" instead of just traveling from "a" to "b". Tidus can be very annoying until towards the end and Yuna is a dolt. The main mini-game Blitzball is terrible. And the voice acting adds a layer of bad to it never before present in a Final Fantasy. And it does have my most hated character of all-time: RIkku. X-2 I haven't played in years but it was f***ing terrible. The game itself was fine but the j-pop elements were just too much. Yuna went from a tragic character to a muppet. I would have loved to give the HD remakes a go but I already own both games and they weren't worth buying twice, to me. X maybe, but not X-2.

Linearity actually isn't a con for me. I think linearity is somewhat underrated in games, particularly nowadays with these half-baked open worlds and every game trying to be everything to everyone. I'd take a tighter, more focused game with a clear path that has thought put into it over that.

If you like Final Fantasy then X alone is worth the price of the package. I had a bad taste in my mouth from that game for some reason but it got cleansed this past summer. It boiled down to Rikku. She was intolerable. But there's a lot to like about that game. Of the nineteen Final Fantasy games I've played I ranked it as seventh best, which is really really good.

The remaster is a very good one, I recommend it, it's well worth it.
I like FFX, even if it began certain art trends I am not overly fond of, but the battle system is very good, good enough to where a few games more or less aped it(SMT:Nocturne, arguably, but LOTR: The Third Age, blatantly). It's perhaps turn based at its best.
FFX-2, well, hmm. It's really damn weird. I like the gameplay, but it is where Toryama (No, not the Dragonball guy, different one who created Lightening, etc, but also Yuna) first showed his creepy streak that would later be more pronounced. Well, not FIRST showed, since I think he was the one who came up with the Honey Bee Inn in FF&, but that was at least funny. This just gets occasionally uncomfortable on some of the dress spheres.

I used to think it was the worst in the franchise. then I played 13. in all honesty it's not actually a bad game. the combat was fun. it's just dragged down by an obnoxious main character and his even more obnoxious sidekick. Squenix has a special talent for giving the best voice actors in their cast the most annoying roles (Wakka and Snow for example).

X still has, in my opinion, the best turn based battle system in an RPG.

Wakka grew on me, even if he, for reasons I won't spoil, WILL try the patience of some with his stubborn attitude on certain topics. Beyond that, I did give him a lot of shit when the game first came out because he sounded like Tito from Rocket Power, so I would always say "Little cuz!" at the end of his dialogue.

Like others have said, X has the best battle system in the series. It's fast and strategic, and every character has their use (except Kimahri, I guess). The OST is one of the best in the series. I like the story. It's easy to follow, at least.
The characters are a mixed bag. Personally, I love Tidus, but can see why people would find him annoying. I'd say him and Auron are the only stand out characters.
The game's very linear, too. It does kind of get old going down a straight path the whole game, but it didn't bother me that much, I guess.
X-2 is underrated. It's extremely unique when it comes to the other games in the series. It's got a really cool, happy atmosphere to it, where it makes me feel like I'm high when playing it. The battle system's not as good as X's, but it's still a lot of fun, and the dresspheres (which are basically jobs) are cool. But the story is practically non-existant.
So, I love X-2, but can see why people hate it.

Final Fantasy X: A fast paced & strategic combat system that is fun to play, a very well done story & its whole "linearity" is no problem with & I mean c'mon there's nothing wrong with having some linearity in games (not every game has to be EXTREMELY open world)
Final Fantasy X-2: Has a J-Pop feel to that I'm not really bothered by and while a step down from FF X its still a fun game.

Love just about everything about this game. The world's gorgeous, the combat system's fun, the story's awesome, heck, I even liked Seymour despite him being an obvious mashup of Kuja and Kefka.
Also, everyone claims Tidus is annoying but I have no idea why. I thought his attitude was generally understandable considering how much of a prick Jecht admittedly was, and I'm surprised people didn't come down as hard on Auron for deliberately being so vague with him as to what the hell was going on.

Final Fantasy X is in my opinion the best Final Fantasy of them all. Its combat system is the best I have ever used as you can switch in and out party members allowing you to fully utalise everyone. I loved the story and really enjoyed the whole experence. Its very tragic as people try to cope with the fact that a very large godzilla type monster can and probably will kill them any day now. In fact you see what Sin is all about very early on. I liked Blitzball and played it quite a bit. It is sadly a bit too easy though. The sphere grid system isnt all that bad really. I do have to admit that I always felt that I had less HP then I should have had. As for Tidus, well I liked him. He is a friendly guy who doesn't really know what is going on. But yes, now I cant look at him without seeing Meg Ryan....Thanks a lot every one X-2 is a very underrated game. I think Square were trying to market it towards girls as it has very girly humour, its plot is a rather lame love story, and it has several musical numbers that Yuna actually sings. But there is soooo much to see and do! Loads to explore and the job system from Final Fantasy 5 is back!!! BEST LEVELING SYSTEM EVER!!!!!

I can remember pretty much everything about Final Fantasy 7.
I don't remember anything about Final Fantasy X besides Blitzball, that guy in the red coat, and that awkward laughing scene. Not to say its a bad game, I recall enjoying it immensely but it just has not stuck with me. Neither did 8. Haven't played 9, though I've heard good things.

Didn't play much of X but I watched my friend play most of it
I did play X-2 game play wise I have always liked the Job system which the dress sphere was a version of... but the story was kind of a mess and the characters seemed almost like completely different people.
But a lot of the problems of the Final Fantasy games had started becoming a lot more common starting with these games.

FFX was one of the few FF games I played. I gave up at the underwater boss fight.
I have nothing else to add, other than Yuna is pretty. Very pretty.

I assume you know the file sizes are f***ing massive which can be an issue with overpriced Vita memory cards. Even if you go physical for X you still have to download X-2
Apart from that I assume you're used to games of that vintage and genre? As long as you are it should be fine and it's a good port. Although it still takes bloody ages to get going.

FFX - Good story, great combat system, ok characters but terrible script and voice acting.
FFX-2 - Good job system and combat system, the music was really hit or miss, and the story actually did improve from it's initial atrocity. Like before, the scrip and voice acting are awful.
