I like to 'rate' matches the way i rate films. For example, im a big fan of the Godfather and also a big fan of the Dark Knight, but i would give the Dark knight a higher rating simply because i find it more fun and can watch it any time, whereas i always need to be in the right mood to watch the Godfather trilogy. The Godfather may be better written and acted etc but i still find the Dark Knight more enjoyable (the same could be said for Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. I would say that BB is better written etc but i never get tired of watching GOT and find it more entertaining)
Wrestling is the same for me. I love great techincal wrestling just as much as anyone, but i also love matches that are just 'fun' and i have a feeling that Brock/Reigns could be one of them.

My favorite match of the year was Lesnar/Cena at Summerslam and that is probably a 1 star match because they just repeated the same move for 80% of the match

Probably at least 3 stars. Hell Reigns/Orton got 4 Stars and people on here hated that match

It depends hugely upon Reigns' ability to sell for Lesnar. Fans are pretty hip to things these days, and Reigns is getting an obvious big-time push, and that can cause resentment. JOhn Cena was able to overcome said resentment in his match with Brock at Extreme Rules 2012, his selling was so good and Lesnar's offense looked so brutal that fans forgot about LETS GO CENA CENA SUCKS and got behind him on a visceral level, stemming from something close to pity. Reigns has to sell like mad and make it look like Lesnar is a monster he simply cannot overcome. This can be accomplished in the layout of the build up as well.
That could be why they're having Reigns sell more than some think he should in his matches. He's got to get practice at selling to get his matches over on the big stage.

And I'm sure what Reigns and Lesnar are really after is the approval of Dave Meltzer Does anyone in the locker room care about the approval of Meltzer? I remember reading a story about Juvi Guererra getting laughed out of Vince's office after requesting a raise due to the rankings of his matches? Does ANYONE ANYWHERE care these days?

When you consider that Brock and Taker struggled to a mediocre match last year at Mania in Taker's streak ending match.....Lesnar/Reigns has the potential to be absolutely awful. Im pretty sure thats mostly on Taker, especially with him being concussed early on.

I remember reading a story about Juvi Guererra getting laughed out of Vince's office after requesting a raise due to the rankings of his matches? This is probably more a reflection on the Hitmans fragile ego than general locker room sentiment but anyway.....recently reread Brets (excellent) autobiography. He mentions Meltzer in passing early in the book and is very dismissive claiming only workers should critique matches (although he mentions the dirtsheets were widely read backstage). Later on in the book Meltzer gets namedropped more and more to the extent that Bret is quoting positive WON reviews after each good PPV match, it goes to the absurd when circa 1997 Bret is quoting him every two or three pages. And of course who is the first person Bret goes to, to put forward his version of the screw job?

I think Bret's one of the all time greats, and his book was an excellent read, but you have to remember that the latter half of the book was written post-stroke. That's the excuse I've made to explain the change of tone as the book goes on.

Who was better to Bret to go to post screw job though? He couldn't go to the legit media and outright expose the business. Plus it would have made him look like a bit of a loser. I can't think of anybody better during that time period who could explain things to the more informed fans out there.

I don't know why it's apparently set in stone to people that this match is main eventing Mania.
I don't see it. At all.

Brock's gonna get Superman punched 5 times and just laugh them all off.
Then Seth Rollins is going to cash in and Brock will curb stomp his face through the ring.
Your WWE World Heavyweight Champion after WM 31: Brock Lesnar.

Star ratings are subjective and overrated. I have see tons of matches Dave was meh on and I loved. I also watched matches he loved and wasn't as wowed as he was by it. I go by the Rotten Tomatoes method of looking at various opinions and forming my own. A hundred times this.

I don't know why it's apparently set in stone to people that this match is main eventing Mania. I don't see it. At all. It's mostly because it's been getting reported by news sites for what seems like this whole year. Every other week there'd be a thing along the lines of "Oh, by the way, WWE still want Roman Reigns as the 2015 Rumble winner" or whatever. Basically I'm of the opinion that I'll believe it when it actually happens. And if he's still crazily over after winning it, then I've got no problems because the majority of people at the shows would be getting what they want. As for the hypothetical Lesnar/Reigns match being bad... If one is charismatic enough and over enough to cover up their wrestling ability being only "solid fundamentals, with cool strike moves" at best, then it's almost irrelevant as long as they don't COMPLETELY metaphorically shit the bed. Kind of like with guys like The Ultimate Warrior and Sid... They were never great wrestlers, but dammit they were charismatic and over, so it barely mattered.
