During his last run he went just about as far as he could without getting a program for the title. I'm pretty sure it's not just a rumor, but has been confirmed that this is because Austin didn't want to work with him due to Jarrett's mistreatment of Austin early in his career. However, what if Jarrett got a run with the belt. Even as just a transitional champ?
What do you think would have been the best case scenario and on the flip side what is the worst?
I think his character was pretty in line with McMahon. I could have seen him getting a month or less reign as a hired hand for Vince feuding with Austin. That's probably pushing it, but that's the best I could see.

If he stayed past October, he takes Big Show's spot in Survivor Series Triple Threat. Maybe he loses in Armageddon to Triple H.

I always thought he was at least good enough to give it a try. At least give him a PPV title match that he loses.

I think Jarrett's often downplayed by people unfairly. I think they could have had worse choices, and honestly, with everything wrong with WCW's title scene when he made the jump, I don't know if he'd even crack the top 10. (Kevin Nash won the title, gave it to Flair with zero hesitation, who proceeded to lose it almost instantly, etc)

As a kid I probably would have booed him more than just about anyone else against Austin. As an adult I really do enjoy Double J's work over the decades. He could have been at least a transitional champ.

I always thought he was at least good enough to give it a try. At least give him a PPV title match that he loses. Yeah, Jeff was never a guy like Austin or Rock, someone who would be the top guy you built a company around. I put him in the category with guys like Jericho and Kane, and that's not bad, that's a great spot to have. He could main event, get a couple runs with the title, but no matter where they put him he'd be credible but not be the top guy. That's where WCW and TNA f***ed up, they made him the guy.

I had a fantasy booking years ago of a Jarrett/ Mr. Perfect WM Championship match. Either guy would have won, depending on the build. Perfect could have pulled off a decent couple of runs as champ, while Jarrett could have been a transitional champ like Edge --meaning, winning it a few times for a few months. I want to add, like Edge, he had so many "transitional" runs that they just became runs.

I would have utilised the Chyna feud as a means of getting him into the main event picture, especially with Chyna's connections to Trips at the time. Trips helps Chyna win the title at No Mercy and Jarrett cuts a promo saying that Trips' involvement in the match makes him the biggest girl of them all because he never took him on face to face when he could have done. Jarrett gets inserted into the main event after Austin gets run over and takes basically the Big Show's role while Trips feuds with Vince, probably in a month long program with The Rock.

Jarrett is a better all round performer than Triple H because he knows his job as a heel is to make the face look good, something Hunter has never excelled at. Had he not gone to WCW, he would have gotten a run with the WWF/E title in the early 2000s when they were testing new stars and people would think more highly of him as a result. He would have held his own far, far better against guys like the Rock than Billy Gunn did.

Didn't they tease Jarrett vs Austin a few times?

Jarrett honestly shouldn't have been world champ anywhere. Really good utility wrestler, ok in every other aspect, and that's about it.

Watching all the 99' PPVs, I'm a big fan of Jarrett's work but I wouldn't put the world title on him. Jarrett was a good upper midcard guy and there's nothing wrong with that.

Didn't they tease Jarrett vs Austin a few times? I have read plenty of rumors about that, but from what I have read, Austin didn't want to work with Jarrett.

He was a hired gun for the corporate ministry and Austin stunned him for no reason a few times that summer for no reason. Replace Mankind with JJ at summerslam or make it a 4 way

Just another reason I wish Flair would have had a short run with the WWE Championship sometime around 2003 or so.

Jarrett in WWF I don't buy as a world champion, I don't think his character could make it at that point, it would need a few more years of development.
However I never had a problem with him in WCW as a champion because something about it just felt more... right? Ditto TNA.
I don't know, I just don't think he fits in the WWF Attitude Era title scene.

I still say With My Baby Tonight was the best thing Jarrett was ever involved in
