Yeah this will go over well and the Punk shirts are not going away anytime soon. Hell there's people on RAW that have the Jeff Hardy armbands. This is WWE being paranoid as hell.
The next RAW in Chicago is going to be very interesting.

Don't they have to pay royalties to use Punk on WWE Network, though? I'm not really sure how that works, but I thought the VOD stuff was similar to using footage of someone on a DVD royalty-wise. It's different. They have to pay him significantly more than they would anybody else because they only had control over his ring name while he was with the company. They probably have to pay him extra every time the name is said or is shown on screen. They won't have an issue like this with, say, Cena if he ever leaves, since "John Cena" is his actual legal name. And with UFC Signee Phil Brooks pretty much hating all things WWE right now, he's not likely to want to sign a blanket deal to let them keep using the name "CM Punk" on TV (I assume when Gangrel was on the roster, they had a deal with White Wolf that they only had to pay them once to use the name, instead of repeatedly). WWE not owning the name just means they can't stop Punk from using it outside of WWE, and they can't just give it to someone else like when they made a new Razor Ramon and Diesel. However, WWE or any other company he worked can make a comp of his matches, call it "The Best of CM Punk in (insert promotion)", and sell it to the public without needing his permission. Every wrestling promotion does this. TNA is even starting a new weekly TV show that they will be getting paid to produce where the company will exploit their video library using the names and likenesses of guys who no longer work for them. I don't know how royalties for old footage works, but Buddy Landel just this past weekend stated publicly that he has not been paid a cent any of the times WWE has aired old footage and he was in it. Owen Hart's wife sued WWE a few years ago, and the part of the suit where she tried to argue that WWE had no right to use footage of Owen (and use his name in connection with it) was quickly dismissed.

Wow Benoit has a higher profile than Punk now, who would have thought?

For everyone who wanted to jump on me for the Benoit mention, go back and read the damn post, k?
"Benoit being the biggest example" does not equal "Benoit is the only other example."
You really need someone to start listing all the times they've done this? Okay, fine.
TNA.
Austin after his walk out.
Brock after he left.
Ring of Honor.
Kurt Angle after he left.
Every single one of those came with reports that security was cracking down on signs and paraphernalia referencing them. Every single one of them.
Now if you "apples and oranges" any of that, more power to you.

Looking back at what I said earlier, I get the feeling that it's that every time "CM Punk" is said, or his name appears on a sign in the crowd, WWE has to pay him royalties. Which they obviously don't want to do. Now that he's gone, WWE no longer has license to use or say the name "CM Punk". That's not how royalties work.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if all of the fans wore CM Punk merchandise and they had to eject everyone?
Not likely but a hilarious scenario.

It would not survive a lawsuit. The WWE would lose big time over this if they enforce it against a fan who is a lawyer or is willing to take the time to fight them over it.

Yeah, it'll be spelled out somewhere when you buy the ticket that they can boot you for whatever reason.
Still horseshit and lame.

I'm willing to bet that they will kick out people who unintentionally look like CM Punk.

That's apples and oranges. Chris Benoit murdered his whole family, anyone with a Benoit sign or t-shirt was doing it to troll. Well there's your answer then. Start off with a Punk shirt on, & when they ask you to remove it, put a Benoit shirt on. When they tell you to remove that one, put the Punk shirt back on then. This will end up like some goofy Bugs Bunny Cartoon. If they don't want me to wear a CM Punk shirt to a live event, fine. I'm not going to any of their live events. I usually don't anyways because the programming........well, how do I say this eloquently?.........sucks.

If this becomes majorly public knowledge, the reaction to the loud CM Punk chants that this will draw will make for interesting TV.
The WWE just arent willing to admit they f***ed up on this one. And Im SO f***ING HAPPY someone managed to call them out on their independent contractor BS.

I don't even believe this is true. You can't...ban people from wearing non-vulgar clothing.

Is it weird that just about every guy that a major run with the WWWF/WWF/WWE Title always have a falling out with the company? That's not true!! There's plenty of men who didn't have that. Like Bruno Sammartino.......oh wait. Well, maybe Iron Sheik.......oh yeah. Well, Hulk Hogan......crap. Macho Man Ra.......f***. Ultimate War......hmmm. Diesel........dammit. Bret Hart......nope. Stone Cold Steve Au.......crap. Brock Lesnar.......dammit. Kurt Angle......son of a bitch. I got it!! The Rock!!! He didn't fall out with the company. He left to make movies!!!
