I've been meaning to play Final Fantasy again outside of FF 7 and I'm interested in playing the other installments. So what are your personal favorite Final Fantasy games?

Dissidia is the most fun I've had playing one.

Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite of all of them. 4 is good as well. 5 I've always kinda been eh on... though the Job system is pretty neat. 9 was fun from what I remember.... The original is fun for what it is... admittedly there is very little story to it.
Really don't like 8 though there seems to be a big split of either you love it or you absolutely hate it
Final Fantasy 13 is terrible.

I'm one of the few who will proudly say they love VIII.

Tactics (masterpiece), VII (first love), and IX (the series at its most fun). X is really impressing me on a replay, too.
The rest tend to fluctuate, but I gave up on XIII one disc into the game and have never touched the sequels.

IV, V, VI, and X are my favorite single player games. If you like MMO's, XIV is fantastic and deserves recognition for its transformation from a complete disaster of a game to one of the best made MMORPG's since World of Warcraft's launch.
For the sequels and spinoffs, Dissidia is surprisingly fun and the follow-up was even better. If you ever get a PSTV/Vita and don't have a PSP, it's on the PSN. Crisis Core was also pretty solid. And of course, Tactics is excellent. A little grindy at times, but still great.

VIII is my favourite. Great gameplay, story and a fun battle system.
IX and X are also excellent and I think XII is very underrated.

IX is my favourite.
VIII, X, VII, V, IV, VI, and Dissidia are also great.
X-2, XIV, Crisis Core, Tactics Advance, and Lightning Returns are fun.
XII and XIII are average at best.
III and XIII-2 are poopy.
Played II for about five mins, and never played I or XI.

VIII is my favorite, and I understand while some may dislike XIII, it doesn't deserve the hate it gets especially the treatment of Hope.

I gotta go IV.
I dig the old school gameplay. I dig the redemption story. I dig how all the pcs are individuals that develop into themselves. Plus, dark knights are just cool and they're cool largely because they are so mysterious. You get Cecil for like 1/4 of the game and Gaffgarion for even less in Tactics. Beyond that, what are they really about?
I'm sure you can be one in the MMOs, but that's hack.

Final Fantasy VI(US SNES Final Fantasy III). It's the only one I've played.

IX is the best with VII being behind it.

Final Fantasy I is by far the best. It's simple, short, sweet, and to the point. There's no stupid giant chickens, there's no equipping things onto other things to equip into things to turn into espers to equip into other things to equip into weapons. You create your own party as you see fit with no stupid annoying characters, if you don't want a thief (and it's recommended that you don't take one) you don't have to have him in your group. There's four main bad guys and one main big bad who want to do something confusing, but still bad. No stupid pretty boy villains for the girl FF fans to fall in love with and shove down your throat non-stop. Final Fantasy I is the perfect Final Fantasy game!
That said, Final Fantasy IV (Final Fantasy 2 in America) is also great. Characters aren't too annoying (there's a few here and there, but they aren't that bad), the story is fantastic, the bad guys have motivations that make sense, there's actually a couple redemption stories, and the combat system is top notch out of this world. Final Fantasy IV is awesome, and falls just behind Final Fantasy, IMO.

No stupid pretty boy villains for the girl FF fans to fall in love with and shove down your throat non-stop. That alone makes I the worst game in the series. I think I enjoyed V, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and Dissidia the most. XII would have been perfect if the story wasn't so exposition-heavy and we had got to know the quirks of the characters better.
