Can we stop acting like comics don't regularly have guest writers? Especially in Annuals. For christsake, you people act like Marvel fired a writing team to bring him in. No, I get it. That wasn't the point. The point was him doing it after crying so hard about part time main eventers.. Another age old practice. It isn't that it was wrong either way, it is the fact it is Punk doing it.

What Punk is doing with Marvel is more comparable to the participants in the Wrestlemania 17 gimmick battle royal, not multiple part timers going over the #2 or #3 guy in the company.

And writers don't "go over each other" like in wrestling. If Punk writes a good story, another writer doesn't lose in the process.

Having worked in it briefly, you underestimate how cut-throat the comic book industry can be and more than frequently writers will lose spots on projects to guest writers. It is as dog eat dog as most big corporate industries. However people seem to be missing the point here. Guy who can't stand celebrity and having "fans" and can't stand guys not earning their spots swans into the world of comics and UFC without paying his dues and only doing so because he's a celebrity! It's hypocritical, period. It's not even an opinion, it's a fact that shouldn't really be argued whether you love the guy or hate the guy because it's exactly what's happening in this situation.

My question is how soon before him and Dana White have a nasty breakup? Because it happens with most of UFC headliners. I'm going to guess as soon as he gets demolished. There's no way that this deal ends well for anyone.

Kinda like when Tito challenged Dana except no one will back down since both are unrepentant assholes and don't like looking weak.

Will he walk out to Cult of Personality? I think Punk said his buddies in Rancid want him to use one of their songs in UFC. No. Cult or nothing!

No. That's not what's happening. He very specifically complained about celebrities being in the main event at Wrestlemania. He very specifically said he had no issues with Rock being at Wrestlemania nor did he have issues with Rock himself. Punk's not in the main event in UFC. He's not on an A List title for Marvel. He's doing what he though Rock should do at Wrestlemania; be a special attraction.

The people calling Punk a hypocrite would have a point if Punk was complaining about people like Snooki or Maria Menounos.

I dunno, I wouldn't go so far as to call the dude a hypocrite, but by definition him being on the card means someone else will be left off it who deserves it more by virtue of them actually being professional fighters. It's a money grab and a favor to a guy Dana likes, that's all. Dana himself has outright said that. There's nothing inherently wrong, nor hypocritical with taking advantage of that; but let's not act like it's other than what it is.

I'm not really sure how to feel about CM Punk entering UFC. Part of me feels like Punk doesn't really want to fight and is just wanting this to be either a way to keep his name out there or leverage in case he does return to WWE at some point and gets a Brock Lesnar-style deal. But maybe Punk legit thinks this will work out for him, and if that's the case then awesome.

I don't give a shit about comics but if I heard Christopher Nolan was writing a Spider-Man comic I would check it out. I barely watch MMA anymore but I'm going to watch CM Punks fight for sure. There's thousands and possibly hundreds of thousands more stars strucked casuals like me that let things like this happen

-Hates fans talking to him and being famous.. Yet ONLY associates with other celebrities and quasi-celebrities. Dude hates fans being dicks and/or thoughtless in their interactions with him, and hates that they camp out on his front lawn. That's not "hates fans talking to him and being famous" ONLY associates with other celebs? I assume you or someone else is keeping tabs on him 24/7 to see he doesn't hang out at his neighbor Clyde's house for a couple of hours a week? His "big writing job" at Marvel amounts to a couple of filler back-up stories. That's about as jobber as you can get there. They didn't hand him some big Spider-Man mini (looking at you, Kevin Smith) or let him take over one of the hottest series they had (and run it into the ground, Joss Whedon).

Having worked in it briefly I've been writing for Marvel since 2005.
