I am ok with them coming back, but it is definitely too soon. Clearly they were going to come back to build something with Sting going into Wrestlemania, but I didn't expect to see them until Feb at least. For any kind of impact they had to wait even longer to come back, so that the audience missed them/no longer felt they were stale.
Perhaps they rushed it due to Daniel Bryan coming back quicker than expected? Or perhaps I am giving them too much credit. Certainly it does hurt the legacy of the Survivor Series match, which they called match of the year (and it was really good).
One of the biggest criticisms of WWE booking in recent years is rushing things. For instance bringing Punk back in 2011 just one month after he "left the company" with the belt at Money in the Bank. This is in many ways like the opposite of that, i.e. in that case they should have worked the audience into a frenzy when all they wanted to see was Punk by delaying his comeback, in this case they have brought back something the audience didnt want before they had time to develop any nostalgia for it.
The authority can be effective in this role, but there needs to be a whole lot less Big Show and Kane and a whole lot more Triple H singing "when you wish upon a star".

Basically forced into it, terrorist hostage-taker style by Rollins.

The idiocy of that segment last night....just wow. The thing is that Cena essentially gave up because Rollins threatened to cripple one of Cena's worst enemies. They even felt the need to mention all of Cena and Edge's checkered past, including Edge attacking Cena's dad!
Why even have the stip at Survivor Series then? Just have Team Cena vs. Team Authority in a match. Maybe toss in a minor stip like "If Cena and Co. win then The Authority is suspended for the rest of the year."

Never Give Up, Never Surrender for YEARS.... *two minutes into an ordeal* Ok, I surrender Thus is the tale of Cena's entire character summation. He's a f***ing walking contradiction.

I really want the other faces to be PISSED at John Cena, especially considering that when Rollins went to hurt Edge, Cena was able to stop it anyway.

After sleeping on it, I kinda feel that this is a bit too easy and tidy just to have them back all of a sudden. There has to be a twist/caveat/etc. involved.

Basically forced into it, terrorist hostage-taker style by Rollins. I laughed there. When's the last time on Raw that someone threatened to kill somebody, with the line, I'm gonna kill him anyway?

So Rollins cements himself as the heel that everyone hates, faces and heels alike, Bryan comes back and cuts a great promo and announces he's back...then Cena "gives up" and The Authority is back to close the show.
If I thought they'd acknowledge the first (and as a heel, Rollins should just milk the hell out of it) or allow said heel to be something more than Cena's bitch in the ring, and if I didn't already know where this thing was going, then maybe I'd have hope.
But here's where this goes. Cena "beat the Authority" (even though it was Sting/Ziggler, but nevermind that bullshit) but that was to avenge D-Bry and the fans, and everyone else. Now, now it's "personal" and it's all about how they wronged John. Now, even though he already saved the day once, this time they came after him by beating up someone who used to taunt him and jump him mercilessly, and don't go mentioning that he gave in because that was all part of his master plan.
Yes, now it's personal, and so John has to win again and vanquish them again so that they...uh...so that they stay away for six months this time.

clearly they want to turn Ziggler heel so by having cena bring the Authority back then can have ziggler complain to cena about he threw away everything dolph had won for the wwe and now their lives are gonna be even worse as the authority will want revenge on them for team ziggler's er cena's winning.
cena starts yelling about protecting his friends (as his spotless record when it comes to saving his buddies getting beat up in the past attests to) and where was he when this was happening, and thus ziggler is now a heel again.
all of which is done to ensure one less face out there can no longer attempt to not make roman reigns look strong.

I want people to threaten Edge anytime they want Cena to do something.
Nikki: "I swear I'll break his neck if you don't marry me, John!"

I thought it was a real awesome segment.
Got Seth over as a huge heel. Put Cena's character in a tough spot, which he isn't often in, and actually had the heel get one over on him. Great use of Christian, and Edge. Yes, of course Cena and Edge were great rivals, but this is wrestling people. The current story emphasised the real life elements of Edge being near paralysed, and being a married man and father. Are you guys seriously suggesting even Cena would want to see that happen to anyone? Come on.
And so the Authority are back. I get the annoyance, I do, but I think there is actually a fair bit more mileage in the type of characters Steph and HHH are playing. Steph as this overly arrogant, awkward white girl dancing Mummy hamming it up with her hubby, and HHH back on screen to feud with Sting. They are good characters and give direction to a show as opposed to having random stars back each week and doing good stuff for the faces. They are just a vehicle to make heels look like bigger heels and give faces someone to play off of. They are the perfect compliment to Daniel Bryan's character, and we never got a pay off to that. They also represent everything about the classic WWE institution, that Sting was so afraid of being a part of, and therefore they represent the best enemies for his character too.
One of the best Raws of the year I thought. Everyone got promo time. Stories progressed. Awesome Bryan promo. Barrett also back. Roster looking strong. Young starts really fuelling their own characters (with some of the best heel work in years from Rollins). Loved it.

Good, everybody acted like The Authority were still in power anyway and the stupid "only Cena can bring them back" stipulation meant their inevitable return hung over every show.
At least their return is out the way now even if it would have been better if they went away forever.

And last night may have won me back to the WWE just on The Authority's return alone. I thought that they should have won at Survivor Series, and with their return it definitely works well storyline-wise for building Reigns, Bryan, and Ziggler's roads to the Rumble and likely beyond.
