Got a NECA Godzilla 1985 figure for Christmas (didn't even know this line existed, anyone else have any of them?) and recently have been watching a bunch of the old Toho films again. Who else is a fan of the films?
Pretty close to having all of the official U.S.-released kaiju films and most of the TV shows (not that there are that many available yet) like Ultraman, Iron King, etc. Probably have 90% of the other films not yet released here and a decent smattering of the shows as well. Never could grow out of this stuff.
So yeah, Godzilla, Gamera, Spectreman, whatever floats your boat. Let's keep it to the Asian kaiju films (Asian as opposed to Japanese so the Korean and other kaiju films can be included if wanted).

I am going to be correcting an oversight on my part soon, by watching more Godzilla movies. Living in the UK means most of these aren't readily available on DVD & BluRay, so I have to resort to piracy (Good luck finding something that isn't the 1998 movie). I do own the BFI release of the 1954 original, and I still find it weird when people complain Godzilla wasn't in the 2014 one enough.
Anyway, first one I went back and watched was Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, based off hazy memories of seeing it in 1998 as part of BBC2's "Monster Night" in 1998, which had the bizarre spectacle of Phill Jupitus, Chris Moyles and Paul Ross betting fake money on Kaiju fights, complete with Robot Wars-style commentary from Jonathan Pearce. Here's Godzilla vs Ebirah from that:
I've also downloaded and watched Final Wars, which was fun. I've decided though, rather than cherry-pick random films, to just go through the "Heisei" series, starting with Godzilla 1985, up to vs Destroyah
As a side-note, this is my 1000th post, apparently

Godzilla is fantastic. I have tons of the Bandai figures and a few posters AND an original "had it since i was a kid" Shogun warriors Godzilla!
I also love Spectreman! I didnt know if anyone else ever heard of him! I watched it on the old TBS way back in the day. That is how I found the old GCW show actually.

My parents gave me some sort of mini Godzilla figures straight from Japan when I was a kid. They went outfits just about everything else when my dad cleared his old house out after I moved out. Found out they are going for hundreds on ebay. Mother likes to remind me of that.

Spectreman came on after school on channel 39 (home of Mid-South wrestling) for me in the Houston area back in the '80s. Fell in love with the show. I didn't even know who Ultraman was at the time, so Spectreman was my first introduction to the "hero" shows. Dr. Gori and Karras are funny as hell.

Thinking about this summers Godzilla movie, the further away we get from it the less impressed with it I am. I did like the movie, but around the same time I saw Gamera 2 Attack of Legion, and I really did find that movie and the trilogy as a whole to be so much better and more memorable. With Godzilla the only thing I think about is how people mocking how fat he was is probably right. His action figure is so chunky lol.

I haven't really been bothered by his appearance in the film, but my first exposure to him as a kid was the "frog faced" version from the late 60s and early 70s and pretty much all of them are improvements over that. Him being bigger works for me in a way; less human in design, and as a slow(ish) force of nature, I can see him as this massive thing.
Are the IDW books any good? I got hold of the very first issue and a TPB and both make the Marvel and Dark Horse stuff look like Alan Moore/Jack Kirby collaborations.

I don't think its a problem, how he looks, I just find it amusing he's so much more out of shape because he's by Americans, for Americans XD Godzilla: The Half-Century War seems to be the ticket if you're looking for a decent comic.

Will give it a shot. I intend to get the whole run eventually, regardless of quality, because Godzilla. Was great to hear they had the rights to the whole Toho monster roster.
What kaiju-related TV shows have seen official DVD release in the States? I know of two volumes of the original Ultraman, Super Robot Red Baron and Iron King. Has there been anything else? And there was a rash of non-Toho kaiju films made in the last ten years or so - outside of Garuda and Monster X Strikes Back, have any of them seen official release here yet?

I am a huge fan, I still have the bendy plastic figures from the 90ies, plus the recent mini figures. The video games weren't that bad. My friend for my birthday bought me a complete set

I'm excited that over the next few years we are getting Godzilla films from America and Japan. Poor Gamera. Gappa will probably get a new movie before Gamera does

It was pretty good and actually gives really good reason why Gamera would be friend to all children.

Gamera the Brave was a great film. And honestly I am so sick of the lame "zomgz teh Amerika Godzilla is fat because Amerikans are fat lol" BS.
Space Giants was great, but Spectreman is the Dolemite of Japanese mecha hero shows.
