They Came Together (2014) - occasionaly laugh out loud funny, other times the tone didn't quite gel, watchable. The Shining (1980) - still one of my favourite horrors

Saw Inherent Vice..holy shit, what a long, boring movie.I'm usually a PTA fan too.Though I will say I liked that it introduced me to the woman that played Shasta.Pretty lady, looks great in her nude scene.Bonus points for the Belladonna appearance as well.

American Sniper. Not nearly as good as the book, but still a good movie.

Escape Plan : Good if not wholly predictable for the most (but then with Arn & Sly together) then you know what you are getting
And before that Godfather Part 3, I only watched the Godfather trilogy for the 1st time this month and based on everything I heard about it I thought #3 was a trainwreck and while holy god was Sofia Coppola's acting terrible, I mean my god, I've rarely seen acting that bad in a major picture ever she wasn't in it enough to bring it majorly down

Finally got round to watching Birdman. Holy crap! If Michael Keaton doesn't get the Oscar for Best Actor there is no justice in this world. Best Editing needs to go to Birdman too, because what Inarritu did was very ambitious and could easily have went wrong. However I think it was helped by the brilliant performances that were on hand in this movie. I think the only time it dragged on was near the end of the third act and even then that was only for a couple of minutes before the ending kicked into high gear.
Edward Norton and Emma Stone thoroughly deserve their Supporting Actor and Actress nominations also, having said that though I was really impressed with Zach Galifianakis. This was the first time I've seen a serious performance from him and I was blown away by him. He could've easily filled Jonah Hill's spot this year in the Supporting Actor category.
Amazing film, I would highly recommend that you go see it. It's a very interesting take on the way Hollywood actors are looked at from the fans of the theatre and how some actors are crushed under the weight of their most famous roles.

Return of the King on bluray. First time I'd seen it since 2003 in the cinema, first time ever for the extended version actually.
Still looks spectacular now. It does kinda drag out a little too long (please stop hitting each other with axes, I have a headache) but it's quality stuff and a rousing finale to the trilogy. Really torn on whether I like this one or Fellowship the most.

The Shining
It's a great film, but Kubrick's pretentiousness is often jarring and intrusive. I find his filming style tedious. It works best as a simple tale of a man losing his mind. All the attempts as deeper meaning just fall flat IMO. I didn't have much sympathy for the little kid because I find him as scary as Jack Nicholson's character. Shelley Duvall irritates me throughout the film. At times, she's so hysterical, she can barely stand. Now it's understandable to be frightened since she's being pursued by a maniac, but she's so simpering and weak, I actually wanted Jack to axe the shit out of her. I do find it funny when the cook travels all the way from Florida by plane and snowmobile just to be killed instantly. That was a wasted journey.

Watched Dinosaur Island last night on Amazon Video before the Iowa State game.
If you ever wanted to see a cross between a Skinamax Porno/Dinosaur Movie/Cheesey Camp Style B movie... this is the movie for you!

Guilt Trip, starring Barbara Streisand as an overbearing mother who goes on a road trip with her son played by Seth Rogen.
Pretty forgettable, but with a few good laughs.

The Crow
After all these years it still holds up and will always be one of my favorite movies. And that soundtrack is f***ing amazing. That soundtrack changed my life when I first heard it when I was 11 and really helped mold my musical tastes.
"Caw Caw, Bang, f***, I'm dead"
"There ain't no comin' back"
"Skank ain't here, Skank's dead"
"Pussys drink last, man"
"Fire it up!"
