I still reckon it would have been great if some of the WCW guys had met DX & beat them up. Now THAT would have been footage worth repeating Nitro comes back from break with X-Pac grabbing his face, which is bleeding horrifically. The camera pulls back to reveal Meng holding his eyeball. Now that's a war!

The DX Nitro invasion. It was less "invasive" than the TNA thing, and at least the TNA guys brought cake and balloons.
Wanna know what's really overblown? How "bad" WCW was.
WWE makes it out to be like this soul-crushing hell-hole that was a non-stop nightmare for everyone and everything involved.
But they paid their talents a hell of a lot better than WWE did. They didn't work their guys until their bodies fell apart. They actually gave ring time to more than just the top talents.

Hogan vs Andre at WM3 They'd been fueding since 1980 why was this time so iconic? Thongs were different by WM3. WWF was bigger with a new audience who probably didnt know their history or that Hogan was once a heel, in their eyes him and Andre were great friends so Andre's turn was a shock and it was the biggest match in WM history to that point. Especially compared to WM 1. So much more cheek.

The correct answer is the iron man match. It's not a bad match per se, it just does not deserve the praise it gets. WWE actually ranked it first on some recent list.

They were. They'd moved away from the plain white, thicker version that looked just like underwear with a wedgee to the more streamlined, micro-version that sat higher on the hip. And they added bows. I never really liked that style though.

Yeah, it was a decent moment when it happened but the WWE treated it like this huge deal that won them the war! but it really didn't do anything... DX in general was overrated. WWE acts as if they were this big time main event act that ruled the Attitude Era with an iron fist when it was really Shawn Michaels + his mid card sidekick and the mid card sidekick's girlfriend. Then once Michaels disappeared "The DX Army" was just a popular mid card act and then got demoted to simply being Triple H's goon squad once he rose up the card. And the funny thing about the DX/Nitro thing is that it contradicts WWE's other narrative in which DX supposedly only consisted of Triple H and Shawn Michaels. However, this is where looking at wrestling in the perspective of today actually derails this argument. Sure, DX were a midcard act, but midcard acts could actually flourish in this era, whereas DX in the modern era would either end up as overpushed main-eventers that the fans would get sick of after a couple months like a bunch of Zack Ryders, or they would get stuck doing their best stuff on the WWE App where no one would watch them like the New Day. The "tank" (more like a jeep with a cannon) segment is certainly overblown though, as it was fortunate that it fell on the episode of Raw that broke the streak, and the next two weeks that followed where they invaded Turner headquarters and then the WCW offices, and then used a fighter jet to sky-write WWF propoganda before blowing up Nitro in a fighter jet have been relegated to being footnotes. I still reckon it would have been great if some of the WCW guys had met DX & beat them up. Now THAT would have been footage worth repeating Just image if WCW sent them a welcoming committee of Meng, Barbarian, Fit Finlay, and Dave Taylor to greet them. That's a good fantasy and all, but aside from the million dollar lawsuit this would spark, they also might want to consider that beating up HHH or X-Pac might carry certain ramifications with guys like Scott Hall or Kevin Nash, who certainly had the political stroke to sabotage their careers at that point. (I also wouldn't want to ever be in the same locker room with the other Armstrongs, as well.)

Damn, I was in a depressed, crappy mood, now thinking about this might help me get out of it.

Bret- Yeah, he was misused...but well paid. Flair- GTFO Big Show- GTFO...come back inside then GTFO again! Jericho- "I didn't get my program with Goldberg...constant TV time and title reigns mean nothing to me."

Oh yeah, they like to say that DX started the Attitude Era and were the ones that turned everything around, and that HBK's injury stopped the true leader that would take WWE into the stratosphere. They of course ignore that a year before DX formed Austin vs Bret had started the Attitude Era movement. Austin vs Bret was the destruction of the New Generation Era and the beginning of the Attitude Era. Their first match had Vince acknowledging Austin getting cheers, and JR burying the New Generation gimmicks. DX pushed the sexual nature antics, but it was a "revolution" that started with Austin vs Bret.

I don't get Big Show's beef. Was it WCW's fault he put on what looked like 100 pounds in 5 months between 96-97?

And it doesn't help that they have guys who will gleefully help add to that narrative non-stop. (Bret , Jericho , Big Show , Ric Flair ) Only one of the four with a legit gripe is Bret, he came in as the hottest free agent in wrestling, they removed the shine from him in 6 months and demoralised him even before the Owen incident and that's all down to booking. Flair hated WCW so much he re-signed with them multiple times when the door was always open for him over at Titan, Jericho got more TV time to showcase his talents than a lot of former/future WWE champions get these days, Big Show won the world heavyweight title in his debut match and was pushed continually despite his attitude problems.

Great topic idea OP!
I vote the DX invasion as well. A small truck is described as a tank. They "invaded" a parking lot and when a gate closed drove off. Eric Bischoff in response offered to fight the organiser of the stunt in the ring and Vince no showed.

For late 1995/early 1996 New Generation-era WWF, that was an edgy as hell gimmick.

Yeah, that was awesome and the most legit surprising moment in literally years. It is a testament to the moment's awe-factor that the mere fact Lesnar took the Streak has phased out any commentary on how much of a disappointment the match turned out to be. That's to say, if Lesnar'd been the one losing, this would've gone up there with McMahon/Hart in terms of Wrestlemania clunkers. To not stray too far off the topic's focus, and to add to the DX pile-up: that VKM/Shane-O Mac impression that DX pulled off in 2006. Like a lot of WWE comedy, it had elements that was legit hilarious, but the fact they were hellbent on fitting it into a drawn-out quarter made it drag like something rotten. Actually, just take your pick from WWE's Monday Night War series. Granted, there was some new stuff and their reflections on the invasion were somewhat novel (though consistently illogical), but anyone with even the most cursory of interests in grappling at the time will get a considerable whiff of the porkies at just how lopsided it became in WWE's favour; every halfway notable WWF Attitude moment gets this VT that paints it as somehow angling the war into the WWF's favour.

Now THAT would have been footage worth repeating A better plan would have been to have some Worldwide jobbers with okay mic skills like Lodi to go out there in their WCW owned characters and troll DX, offering to buy them tickets to see a real wrestling show, leaving them with footage they can't use for legal reasons without heavy, heavy editing. "Hey look, ma, I'm on WWF TV too! With her watching, I'll have doubled the audience for this skit."
