Except he threatened to shoot anybody who would teach his kids that being gay is ok. Honestly that's the part where I felt he crossed the line, but everybody is pointing out just the part that he doesn't like gay people, if people were emphasizing the "I'll shoot you" thing I'd understand it but to be truthful the big issue I had with it was him saying you're not allowed to believe different than me. People are allowed to agree disagree or what have you, but people's issue with Jay isn't the second part of it, it's the first part of he doesn't like gay people. Homosexuality is an issue that I really couldn't care less about, if people want to live that way that's just fine and dandy, but anybody who says they don't agree gets their throat jumped down and it's automatically assumed that they hate Gay's. Now in Jay's case that was proven to be true by what he said afterwards but generally, even if they're not being overly derogatory everyone hates them over. Really to me this should be as much of an issue as what kind of shoe you like to wear, but everyone has had to turn it into this gigantic issue of if you disagree you hate them. You're comparing someone being homophobic with what kind of shoe someone likes? Fans dont have any obligation to like anything if they dont want to and especially with valid reason. Put it this way, if an actor expressed racist views which most of the public found repulsive you wouldnt fault anyone for not going to see that actors films and supporting someone who is known to be ignorant and obnoxious in their view. It doesnt matter that the character they're playing may be a cool bad ass.

I remember they did a small angle where Jay and Ciampa faced off last year. I'd love for that to be a title match they do at one of the bigger shows.

From what I recall of that time, their 2011 heel run was pretty well received on the ROH boards. A lot of people found them somewhat stale leading up to it, but their feud with ANX was quite popular.

Really to me this should be as much of an issue as what kind of shoe you like to wear, but everyone has had to turn it into this gigantic issue of if you disagree you hate them. I think you're wrong about people's issue with Jay. You know if Jay had said "I disagree with gay marriage," or something to that effect, this wouldn't be an issue. Plenty of wrestlers have said it or implied it and, for the most part, people separate their work from their personal beliefs not unlike how plenty of actors' political leanings don't align (and mathematically speaking, couldn't possibly align) with the millions of people who see their films. What Jay said was he would kill anybody who told his children that gay marriage was OK. When you take into consideration the slurs he used while saying it, there's no possible worse thing he could have said, especially as the good guy marque talent of a growing company. The reason people may shorthand chalk it up to "Jay doesn't like gay people" is because his particular choice of words we so absolutely vile that those of us who disagree with him would rather not re-type it and perpetuate more heartbreaking vitriol into the world. Now, looking 18 months later at Jay's apology and seeing the way he's addressed it since, I (as one of his most vocal critics) truly believe Jay's come around on the issue. The words that seem to ring the loudest are his "I don't teach hate in my house," and the realization that he was letting his character dictate how he as a person saw the world. While I'm sure the ripple effects that his tweet had aren't his preferred means of how he'd wish the summer of 2013 went, from his words and actions I'd venture to guess what bothers him the most is the further hate he put out into the lives of people who would read it. He may not support gay marriage for whatever reason, but I don't believe he'd treat anybody like any less of a person solely based on their sexual preference. I also, on a personal note, would suggest you reevaluate your choice of words on the subject. The topic of gay marriage essentially boils down to a group of Americans being denied their rights solely based on how they were born. While you may never have any use for a law that would allow you to wed someone of the same sex and be entitled in the eyes of the law of the same benefits you would a straight person, by discarding the movement by saying it comes down to "what kind of shoe you like to wear" is incredibly demeaning to a very real struggle facing your fellow countrymen today. Imagine if you had made your same comments less than 50 years about about interracial marriage when it was still illegal. It may seem like ancient history, but in American there was a time when your parent or grandparents wouldn't have been able to marry someone solely because of the color of their skin. You may have had the privilege then like you have now with gay marriage to say you "couldn't care less" as it doesn't affect you, but your choice of words are painting a strong lack of empathy and compassion for your brotherman whom it does. The reason people look at those who don't support the legalization of gay marriage a certain way is because taking such a stance means "I don't think these particular people deserve the same rights the rest of us receive because of something they have no control over." Even if your particular spiritual practice may disagree with it, by letting that dictate such a stance you're also discarding the core American separation of Church and State that this country was built on. Just something to think about.

That was a really good feud. But IIRC it was mainly the various youtube videos they started doing which got them over in a huge way towards the end of that year.

Jay Briscoe's "angry redneck Gangsta" promos are one of the little things that make me smile.
