All I can vouch for is that as a nine year-old Hulkamaniac, I loved it.

I wasn't a smart fan back then, but I still absolutely HATED it. I was not excited to see Hulk Hogan return at all as I wasn't a fan of his promos or ring work, heck, I was more excited to see Brutus Beefcake return... boy how my opinion of him changed when he went to WCW and got a main event push. Bret had worked his backside off with the title, had Yoko beat if not for cheating and they basically gifted it to Hulk Hogan after someone else had done all the hard work. The way they had Hogan come out to avenge a guy he had no history with whatsoever like he was always the Hulkster's little buddy irked me, even then.
I calmed down and thought, 'Okay, I didn't see him while he was at his peak in the 80s, lets see what all the fuss is about', expecting him to continue Bret's role as fighting champion... And then he disappeared with the belt to go film a TV show. No defences, no rematch for Bret, only pre-taped promos then lost to Yoko in a way that did the big guy no favours.
Ric Flair and Warrior got me interested in wrestling but Bret Hart made me a fan, Hogan was just the orange steroid guy who occasionally wrapped himself in the American flag and cheated to me.

It just makes me think, as bad as the storylines have been over the last year (and they have been shocking) at least the wrestling is better now in the WWE than it was in the early 90's.
