In general, I think he is an avatar for dissatisfaction with the product in general. There are a handful of people who seem to hate Reigns personally because in their minds he's an entitled brat who's only talent is nepotism, but for the most part he could be anyone.
The product is pretty crappy in general, and instead of pushing the few bright spots on the roster, the guy getting the push is someone who is still very green. Which would be all well and good if he was being booked to his strengths instead of being handed the John Cena playbook.
If he continues to improve (and probably has a heel turn at some point), the hate will go away. However, if the WWE product doesn't improve, we'll be having this conversation about the guy who wins Rumble '16.

There was a running theme through the entire match - Bryan, Ziggler, Ambrose, Mizdow, and Ryback were all disposed of in quick, anticlimactic ways clearly intended to make you see them as not being real contenders. There's a reason Reigns came out very, very shortly after Bryan was tossed, they thought with Bryan gone the crowd would get on Roman's side. I don't think ANYONE expected the crowd to just flat out act like THAT for the last half of the Rumble.*raises hand* I did.

Creative team, they have made this mess. Reigns did NOT write that fairy tale promo for himself a few weeks back. Reigns did NOT go up to Vince and say "I want Bryan to lose the Rumble. Or de-push guys like Ambrose and Ziggler, that was the creative team. Reigns is far from perfect( and far from ready to be the top guy) but lets not blame him for things he has no control over, let alone didnt do. so yeah, Vince & Company, all the way.

I think it's history repeating itself.
Reigns is in the same place Rock was during Die Rocky Die, we've all said that. Thing is, what changed thing up, was it the fan reaction, or was it that Vince was so desperate that he let two "up and comers" do their own thing and actually get over?
It was the latter. But now we see Reigns on the same path his cousin was on, just without any of that "Go do your thing, be you and turn the volume up" stuff. Reigns is what Vince WOULD have done with Rock had WCW not been winning.

Reigns was popular for awhile, and he never had any issues before then. Basically, with Bryan being back and able to wrestle, to reading they wanted to have him be the top guy, to the poor attempt at using to Rock to deflect boos, to the bad promos in recent weeks, Vince McMahon has taken a potential top guy and tainted him, maybe for the rest of his WWE career unless something crazy happens. Roman Reigns is the reason why Vince shouldn't be around anymore.

True. I think everyone can agree that given the right kind of build, Roman Reigns would be an awesome character to get behind, but they have completely dropped the ball, trying to make him a new version of John Cena. And God bless it, I WANTED to get behind him winning the Rumble, but the situation he was put in made it impossible. Any hate for Reigns now is the end result of the lackluster writing by WWE creative.
