I am fairly sure the Rumble is exclusive to Box Office/PPV for UK TV and here WWE are showing the two big matches, over 50% of the PPV, for "free" on Sky Sports the next night.
Considering how sharp Sky were with the Main Event/Network loophole, surely they won't be happy with this. They will lose possible repeat showing purchases on Box Office over this.

And you care because ...? For the same reason 99% of the pointless threads on this forum are made that you don't post in - curiosity.

Well the answer is no one knows unless they've seen the contracts. There may be a clause that allows it. It may say they cannot show PPVs in their entirity (which they didn't). It may say they can do so but if they do they have to pay a financial penalty. Etc., etc.

I very much doubt they did clear it beforehand and I sure Sky will be livid as I imagine they will be getting a lot of calls demanding refunds tomorrow from those who bought it via Box Office. I remember buying the first Lewis/Holyfield fight on the Box Office years ago and because of the controversial ending, Sky showed the fight on Sky Sports later that week. It got a lot of complaints because people said they wouldn't have paid for the fight if they knew it was on for free a few days later.

I can imagine quite a lot of people will be angry at shelling out £20 for the Rumble last night only to see it "free" on Sky tonight.

I'd be shocked if WWE didn't have some Act of God/Circumstances Beyond Their Control type clause for situations like this, especially after the Benoit stuff.

But why show the PPV from the previous night? They're obviously not supposed to show clips from it elsewhere otherwise we wouldn't get the still photos instead of actual footage. They've got hours of footage available in their archives, they could have cobbled together something like a best of 2014 show instead.

i was thinking that myself actually - maybe by not showing all the matches they can get away with it but yeah sky will be pretty pissed i would imagine. wonder if they show this as the raw replay?

WWE runs the photos because they can censor out the blood and so there is still mystery behind the event, it has never been a TV contract thing as far as I have heard. They've run short clips in the past that freeze before a major moment as well. Yeah, that is different from a full match but this is their most important period of the year and they don't want a best of, they want to keep things moving along to Wrestlemania and this is the shortest gap they have. They want the Rumble hype spreading and setting up the next show but they have no way to hype the advertised main event or set it on TV or really set things up like they need without using the footage they own from last night's show.

To be fair, on Twitter right now (@sky Rumble) there are a lot of people pretty much demanding refunds... be interesting to see whether they get a reply

I'm sure they cleared it beforehand. The way this company has operated the past several years why would the base assumption be they know what they're doing? I would assume the opposite.

Here in Australia we had a similar debacle.
The rumble was shown on the PPV channel MAIN EVENT by the cable provider ( FOX-TEL ) , it was also a public holiday here yesterday so 90% of the people who watched it did so yesterday.....
MAIN EVENT were halfway through a replay of the rumble today as Raw aired. 20 mins into Raw the coverage stopped and a simpsons episode was shown instead.
So " foxtel " have had a fit at the prospect of the 3 remaining people in australia who didn't A - watch it yesterday for $25 australian , B - watch it on the network for ( just ) $9.99 or C - torrent it wanted refunds.
Just a disgrace Has made my decision to get the wwe network a lot easier.

Yeah? Well those of us that only watched Raw were cheated out of that epic diva's match that will forever change the face of women's wrestling! Who really got screwed now? Seriously, the odds of this happen again are 1000 to 1. Counting Havok, this has happened twice in 15 years maybe? It's not like this whole thing was planed or something. Do you really think Vince and Company are that smart? Look at the their booking lately if you said "yes".

It would help the characters/storytelling, if they could do annotated replays ending in promos for the next PPV after every show. But they wouldn't do that, so eh?

I"m guessing the "hey we need to clear this with our international distributors" person was fired during the layoff and thus no one was there to make the call.

Once the Benoit stuff was out, instead of doing a mini-tribute to him, or recapping ECW/SD!, the AM RAW that week played an hour version of a highly edited Night of Champions. It's not the first time that it's happened.

WWE did worse than breach their contract with SKY, they breached the unspoken contract with the fans - don't screw them over by giving away over half a PPV ( with the most important matches ) for free 22 hours after you made them pay for it. It's horrible business and really shows how little they think of the fans.
