So, WWE has driven me to watching TNA again and I am just watching last Friday's Impact. What the hell happened? Why can't they have a normal set? Why are the announcers in a studio somewhere and why does it look like they are filming it in a dark empty arena? I don't like to say it, but the set has gone worse since I stopped watching.

It's dark to hide the fact that there's barely anybody there watching it.
It's depressing to watch.

They didn't close up the Dangerous Pit properly. Darkness has been escaping from it's cracks for months. It's only a matter of time before it consumes everything.

No crowds.
Studio makes no sense to me either. It'd be okay if they had a huge studio like the WWE does but it legitimately looks like they're in the corner of someones office watching a monitor and commentating and that isn't good. I understand that is likely the reality of the situation but you need to hide those negatives.

So basically, TNA is end-stage AWA right now. That sounds downright depressing.

So basically, TNA is end-stage AWA right now. That sounds downright depressing. The similarities are frightening. Lost nearly every big star they had? Both did. Running 1000-2000 seat buildings and only half filling them? Both did. Criticized for living in the past and never moving forward? Both are. Desperately hanging on until the very end? You got it. People like to make the comparisons of the dying days of WCW but WCW had huge stars in 2001 (Goldberg, Luger, Nash, Booker, Page, Sting etc) and still had a huge national television deal and their PPV buyrates would be passable in today's market. TNA 2015 is AWA 1991.

According to the idiot "running" things, it's an "intentional creative decision" and they are trying to "evolve" the product with "lighting treatments".
Yeah, the rest of us laughed at her too.

I just like how Dixie's attempt to evolve the product was making the show more realistic and to simply have workers in the background working during interviews and having the cameramen pop up randomly for interviews. No addition to the show and nothing to make it better it's just there for no reason like a lot of TNA's show.
Dixie needs to realize that wrestling fans are okay with suspending their disbelief if the product is good. Nobody is going to poke fun at TNA for things being too staged and planned if the product is amazing. Wrestling fans just don't work that way and generally they're happy as long as story lines are good and the matches are good. Dixie doesn't seem to understand this though.
All of her changes have been poor or pointless.

That's really, really not that far removed from the AWA saying that there was "too much interference in their matches" to justify moving their product to the Big Pink Room.

Not for nothing, but most of the fans they'd show at TNA's events weren't the prettiest to look at so this was a nice change. Makes the show more watchable.

I don't watch TNA, just clips/matches here and there, but I actually like it. It's a nice atmosphere if you don't constantly think about how it's so dark to cover the empty seats.

The crazy thing is this madness is working. The television ratings are increasing each week and yet their product as taken steps backwards.

the one good thing about the dark crowd is when the other week they had some wrestlers watching a match from the balcony with a spotlight just on them.
that looked f***ing awesome.

The lack of lightning in the arena, as Rave stated, is a decision made by John "Big" Gaburick that is supposed to put focus on the ring and the matches. I actually like it until a match goes outside the ring and it becomes unwatchable.
The new set, much like WWE, is a cost cutting measure as well as a space issues since there isn't a lot of room for the fancy sets in the smaller Manhattan Center or the casino they're running in PA.
As for the announcers, they are doing that it give a more "reality" feel. They're no longer treating it as a live event that needs to be called like a sporting event but as a almost as a fight club thing where they are telling you what happened. I really love this move, it has a more realistic feel to me and gives the show a different vibe than anything else I know of in wrestling.

I don't watch TNA, so I went on their website to see some videos. When the crowd cheers it's like the arena is haunted.
