I don't understand, Steve Austin was no more physically appealing, impressive or marketable than Bryan but they gave in to crowd response fairly quick with him - rightly too. Why does Bryan need to cure cancer before this company gives him a real, sustained shot? Because WWE's notion of what makes a star is dependent on the opinions of a half-insane old man. Half??

That is some of the newziest newz to have ever newzed. Lazy smarkbait designed to inflame the temperament.

But I mean, it's either give people what they want, or their biggest show of the year just gets completely crapped on? Its absolutely in their control but they're just not going to do anything?

I do see their point, he's nearing the end of his career, you don't give a guy who's nearly Cena's age Cenas spot as the franchise, you want to give it to one of the younger talents so you don't have to find the next franchise for a long while. I see Bryan as this generations Mick Foley, a Veteran who towards the tail end of his career finally gets a big WWE run and gets over as rover but is never the "face of the company". Austin was in his mid 30's when he was pushed to the top. He also had a serious neck injury like Bryan did. Yet, he was pushed to the top because fans wanted it to happen. There's no reason to not built the company around Bryan (the most obvious guy on the roster for 2 years now) for a few years until you find the next top guy like a Cena or Hogan. Let him be the top guy for the next year or so, give him a decently long title reign, and fans will be happy. Continuouly push a guy down to card who a lot of people want to see as the top guy is NOT good business and could vey well hurt them in the long run (especially if Reigns is a flop.) Times have changed, and people like Bryan and Punk are who a lot of fans gravitate towards because they can relate more to them. Someone like Reigns with his boy-ish good looks and family blood-line isn't relatable.

Because WWE's notion of what makes a star is dependent on the opinions of a half-insane old man. I do fear it is as simple as that. A half-insane old man who will linger until 998 years of age, no doubt. If Vince makes it 998 there's no way in hell that old bastard doesn't stick it out for 1000.

They do know that letting stuff like this out, if true, is just going to cause people to balk even more, right?

There's no reason why several guys can't be pushed to the main event bracket. During the Attitude Era, they had Austin, Rock, Foley, Undertaker, HBK, Bret, and HHH who were all pushed as top stars. Secondly Daniel Bryan is four years younger than Cena. Neither guy is anywhere near the end of their careers, unforseen injuries aside. Daniel Bryan IS one of those younger talents you speak of. They are pushing the exact same amount of people now as they were then. It's not a pool of say 5 or 7 guys that are accepted main eventers to which you have to be finally accepted, it's a ladder where one person is always going to have another on top of them unless you are the very top guy. Right now Lesnar is that very top guy, but Bryan is a main eventer. They just don't want him main eventing Wrestlemania this year.

Given his popularity, which pisses all over the reactions to their chosen one, to marginalise Bryan when a perfect storyline with Lesnar was available, makes no sense.

Why does Bryan need to cure cancer before this company gives him a real, sustained shot? Because there is no one out there to kick Vince in the nuts, take his cash and piss on him and WWE like Bischoff did. It is amazing what depths you'll stoop when that happens. Exactly. If WCW wasn't around, The Ringmaster and Rocky Maivia would have had nice little feuds over the IC or Euro title while the stars of the late 80s and early 90s remained in main event scene until they retired.

Kinda hope they go with just Roman vs. Brock and that's it. The reaction to that match and the aftermath will be fascinating.

You know I believe Vince can thank WCW for the WWE being as big as they are today.
Before WCW startd hammering WWE week in week out, WWE were stuck in a rut in the early 90's, with boring storylines, terrible gimmicks and often poor wrestling. WWE were behind the times and finances were poor, but yet they never bothered to make any change what so ever until WCW started to move forward with the times and nearly drive WWE out of business.
I wonder if WCW never existed would WWE have continued down the bad road they were on, getting smaller and smaller and generally being forgotten about by most people.
Funny company at times.

In other news, ice is cold and water is wet. This is really a mess they could have avoided. Seeing Bryan come back 100% meant that the audience really wanted to see him win again at Mania. If they didn't want to give Bryan the title again this year, they should have held him off until after the Rumble. At the very least, they could have made his elimination mean something instead of looking like an afterthought. They shouldn't have spent the past four months eroding any cool factor that Reigns had so that even if he wasn't the best choice, at least he'd be popular with the audience. They shouldn't have turned Ambrose into a comedy character and instead built him as a good second option if Reigns didn't work out. There were a lot of ways they could have turned it around without even having to "give in" to the fanbase, and they shot themselves in the foot and every instance. I'm curious to see how they pull this out of the fire. Judging from last night's Smackdown, I don't think they have any idea how to do that.

Austin, Rock, Shawn and Bret were all pushed as "the" guy at different time periods, but always only 1 at a time, hell when Austin came back and The Rock was the top guy they turned Austin heel to avoid having 2 faces of the company. As I said earlier Bryan basically is Foley, will never be the top guy but still over as hell and had a short title run because of it. Rollins basically is Triple H, the top active full time heel and will work with Reigns in the future alot I imagine. Ambrose will also get one hell of a push too, not sure what his role will be though, I think he's plan B by the looks of it, I mean Ambrose has been protected as hell recently and main evented a ppv, you can tell by his promos and all the skits they've had him doing that they see a bright future in him Ziggler quite frankly whilst talented isn't exactly main event material. He's a solid upper midcarder though, which isn't a bad position to be in. WWE has always been about 1 top babyface and that makes sense with WWE booking, traditionally WWE have gone for a babyface champion who overcomes the odds, so it makes sense to have as many of the over guys be heels as possible so the face champ has people to work with. Since Sammartino, Backlund, Hogan, Bret, Shawn, The Rock, Stone Cold, John Cena.......
