Thought this was an interesting dealia bob. On his latest podcast, Jim Cornette put forth the following idea after watching the Royal Rumble and seeing all the backlash against it.
You can go and listen to the first 15 minutes of the podcast to hear it in his own words but here's the basic bullet points. My own thoughts in brackets.
*Before the Rumble Bryan announces he is still not medically cleared to wrestle and may in fact never wrestler again (my take, not needed, as he had been gone so long all you had to do was just NOT bring him back until after the Rumble...)
*Reigns wins the rumble as planned. During his celebration Bryan comes out and the two have a prolonged staredown. Bryan says "We need to talk"... Roman says "Not now"... Bryan says "Tomorrow?" Roman says OK. Reigns celebration continues.
*Next night on Raw (or Smackdown as it turned out thanks to the blizzard, unless Cornette can rebook that too) Roman comes out and is interrupted by Bryan. Bryan says he has been cleared finally, but that he will not return to the ring unless he can be as good as he used to be, and he needs someone who can motivate him to train as hard as he can. He says Reigns has a problem. He's a rookie going up against Brock Lesnar, a former UFC, NCAA champ etc.... So he proposes they make a deal. Bryan will help train Reigns in submissions to round out his game against Lesnar and then corner him at Mania. This will help motivate Bryan to get back to the best he can be, and in return Reigns will give Bryan the very first title shot if he wins---the title he reminds Reigns, that he never lost.
*At Wrestlemania Bryan corners Lesnar and during the finish Bryan stops Heyman from interfering which distracts Brock for a second allowing Reigns to hit the Spear/Superman Punch etc and win the title. Cue another Bryan/Reigns staredown before Bryan exits to allow Reigns to have his moment in the sun.
*Bryan and Reigns meet up at the next PPV and wrestle a ONE HOUR BROADWAY (in Cornette's terms) to a draw. (My take---this is once more where Corny is a bit stuck in the 80s with his one hour broadways etc... it would make no sense to randomly re-introduce time limits into the WWE universe at this point.)
*Bryan and Reigns continue to team up for the next six to eight months as allies against various heels before some random miscommunication in a tag match causes them to clash again, which leads to the big rematch, possibly at either the 2016 Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania.
*Neither one has to turn heel, Cornette calls this a cliche idea, but if they wanted to in the rematch you could turn Reigns heel and give him a one or two year run as a monster heel before turning him back face, getting Vince to the place he wanted to be in the first place.
