Considering this guy was rich enough to get someone to find him a 7 foot tall zombie man from an uninhabited desert in the country to both be his last minute tag team partner as well as to do everything Brother Love told him to do.

My favourite part of his gimmick is the fact that he advertises his wealth so freely. Having dollar signs everywhere is brilliant.
I think a lot of people have forgotten just how great the Million Dollar Man gimmick was. It's the type of gimmick that made the golden era so special.

I don't know who came up with the gimmick but if it was Ted who presented it to Vince then he outsmarted him. Check this out:
"Hey Vince I got this brilliant idea, how about mega-rich James Bond type of villain in WWF? The one that has so much pull because he is loaded that he can jump over obstacles that ordinary mortals have to spill their sweat to overcome. And he has power of corruption as well."
Then he goes and plays the character, does it super awesome, Vince buys the whole thing and because they are still protecting the business he has to honor the gimmick.
If this was Ted's plan then he is the smartest man in the business. Getting all the benefits based off his gimmick alone is something that will never, ever happen again in this business.
But now that I think about it, it really makes sense that he never won the belt with the gimmick. It kind of says money cant buy you one thing that you crave the most, respect of being a world champion.
Anyhow easily the best or second best gimmick in the industry. Flair too played it well and had its own twist to it.

Vince has said before that the MDM gimmick was Vince's dream gimmick if he were to ever wrestle. Bockwinkel was originally up for it but was too old to do it by the late 80s

What amazes me about the gimmick is how Dibiase (even though this is the gimmick that really brought him stardom) was already such a respected talent, that there have never been any well known stories of other wrestlers trying to start crap about it, unless I'm wrong. Have there ever been any stories where people complained that they should've got the spot or anything, or has it been "Dibiase's worked his ass off and is such a decent guy that he deserves it"?

Not to mention when he got someone to find him a second 7 foot tall zombie man who was basically a doppelganger of the first one. DiBiase was also the last man in America who could own slaves, as was evident when he bought Hercules. You know he had to be wealthy to get around the law like that. DiBiase's wealth didn't peak until he went to WCW and became the "Multi-Million Dollar Man" as Hogan often reminded us. |

What amazes me about the gimmick is how Dibiase (even though this is the gimmick that really brought him stardom) was already such a respected talent, that there have never been any well known stories of other wrestlers trying to start crap about it, unless I'm wrong. Have there ever been any stories where people complained that they should've got the spot or anything, or has it been "Dibiase's worked his ass off and is such a decent guy that he deserves it"? As a whole, I don't think the guys from that era whined as much as the ones today. It was just accepted that you keep kayfabe and play your gimmick, whether that be a Million Dollar Man or a Wild Samoan. What's funny to me is how DiBiase whines about someone like the Ultimate Warrior not paying his dues when Ted had to endure riding around in limousines and getting room service in the best hotels while most of the guys were still car pooling. |

I never thought Warrior was as bad as people made him out to be. When it comes to paying dues Warrior did wrestle around the south for a while until his WWF debut. |

He bought Andre the Giant in an attempt to get the WWF title (and getting essentially the Face-Off technologies done on that mystery man so he would look like Dave Hebner couldn't have been cheap - especially in 1988!) Then he was stripped of it right away.
He presumably paid a bunch of money to fix the Wrestlemania tournament and lost
He paid a bunch of money for Number 30 in the Rumble, likely paid off the Twin Towers and Slick to help him, and lost anyways
They would mention about how he paid money to Bobby Heenan who would routinely fail
He paid a bunch of "incentive money" to his team for the Grand Finale match of survival at Survivor Series 1990, and then his team was promptly trounced.
Heck he kept giving money to Brother Love for some reason. And he kept being friends with these fools.
I guess he made up for the wasteful spending by wearing the same tights everyday for 5 years.

I've only ever heard stories about him rolling into towns and buying stupid things with a fistful of cash Vince gave him. I once read Vince legit gave him $1 million to spend stupidly to keep up the gimmick, which Ted said he made last the duration of his run. As far as I know, yes, he had limo service and always flew first class, lesser lights like Luger had traveling first class written into the contract. Hogan, Andre always flew first class and had the best of it all, only makes sense Vince's gimmick he wanted to do himself would have the best of everything. |

He also bought Nikolai Volkoff after the fall of the Soviet Union, but he got him for cheap. I can only assume that Rusev's hero VLADIMIR PUTIN bought him back at some point after he came into power. So that means that Putin has done business with Dibiase, who worked with IRS, who is the father of Bray Wyatt.
