It's hilariously bad. Blood, drugs, boobs, guns, stabbings, headsplosions, WE'RE SO EDGY GUYS. I loved PR back in the day but it's a goofy-ass kids show with rainbow spandex and rubber monsters. If you're grittying that up, you go to the tone of the Marvel movies- Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, that level of gritty AT MOST. Hell Pacific Rim is basically Power Rangers for adults and it didn't go this overboard. I keep saying it, but Avengers mixed with Pacific Rim is the PERFECT balance for a Power Rangers movie. Something you can get away with showing to kids, but older fans can happily watch, with I really dislike it now when people try and turn things into other things they're clearly not suited to. I don't need a kids show with all the fun sucked out of it like that. If I want a dark Tokusatsu-style show, I have Garo for that, and it's awesome. Sentai and by extension Power Rangers, are meant to be a little wacky. Even Kamen Rider these days doesn't verge heavily into the angst like it used to (although Gaim was pretty heavy shit as it went on). RPM did the "darker" Power Rangers show very well. I think it's telling that the most positive reactions to this are coming from people who never watched MMPR back in the day, or Power Rangers at any point. Also, It says too much about me that I recognized the "actresses" for "Scorpina" and "Divatox" names in the credits (I had to go back and watch the film again when I saw those names in the credits, I thought I missed more villain cameos).

Wow I would have expected Youtube to be the one to snatch it down not Vimeo as for the most part I have heard Vimeo is pretty cool folk.
Anyways this gritty take is a nice altenative but I like I said no need to remove all the fun from it because thats really half the charm of power rangers/sentai.
Hell I am loving the batshit insanity of Ninninger yea it is aimed at children but gimme a giant shinobi mech popping in and out of buildings any day over gore and endless ammounts of cussing.

I can agree that I don't think I'd dig a full-length Power Rangers movie or new show that had this type of tone to it, but as a one-off, 15 minute short? I can't complain about that. Half the fun of franchises like this is that different writers/directors/etc. are free to experiment with it and try different looks with it.
That said, the one thing I can safely say I didn't like was seeing Power Rangers using guns. I get the idea behind it, but it just feels wrong.

I thought it was pretty cool, but this is definitely a parody.
The original show was incredibly campy, but so is this. You can't direct an actual Power Ranger movie that dark and gritty, it would be impossible to take seriously.

Film now pulled by Saban on Youtube. Keep circulating the tapes Marvel/Disney didn't do that shit when the same guy put out Punisher and Venom short films and Disney is a lawsuit-happy bunch (they even sued a pre-school for painting Disney characters on their walls without permission).

Figured I'd also plug this, but prior to Power/Rangers, there's been another PR fan project in the works for a considerable while now called "MMPR", but it has an even more controversial reputation with the fandom as they were e-begging and trying to exploit fans at one point, the project got blacklisted on the two highest profile PR fan forums (to the point that even bringing it up results in a permaban), and then the producer was hit hard by real life problems involving his mother's health so he put it off. Yesterday they released the latest mini-sode from their project

You want a recommendation of an awesome looking Power Rangers fan film?
Look up "Zordon Of Eltar". On Facebook, they released a preview scene (I, admittedly have not seen that yet) and have an amazing trailer on YouTube.

Ugh I don't buy for one second that Dawson Leery would be a Power Ranger in Spandex. Also, it was just distasteful the way they presented BIlly and Trini using real life incidents. Even if it was intended to be a satirical parody, it just comes off subtle.

I hate to bump this thread but I only now just watched it I couldn't stop laughing at how stupid it was.
Seriously I honestly don't get why so many people on my facebook thought this was great as I found it to be laughably bad and tried way too hard to be dark and edgy to the point of unintentional self parody.
Count this as a prime example that darker and edger doesn't automatically equal better.
