"Vince didn't know who Krusty the Clown was" What a surprise To be fair to Vince, Doink debuted in 1992, so this conversation probably happened in late 91. I imagine a lot of people didn't know the other characters from the Simpson's back then, especially a fifty year old man.

Not that it matters much but for the record and for the accuracy buffs, Vince would have been 46 in 91. I was actually thinking he would have been a bit younger at that point. The point still stands though obviously, knowing how much of a workaholic Vince is I just cant imagine him lounging around his mansion flicking through channels and being like "ooh, Simpsons."

I consider Matt Borne's Doink a great example of method acting in wrestling. Seriously, you could see how much he immersed himself in the character. The facial expressions, in particular, were priceless. The way he would shift from smiling gleefully to frowning menacingly.

Mind you in 1991 the Simpsons were like the biggest most popular hip thing ever.

Mind you in 1991 the Simpsons were like the biggest most popular hip thing ever. If it wasn't wrestling related or grown in the mountainside of Colombia and Peru, I doubt Vince cared for it.

Mind you in 1991 the Simpsons were like the biggest most popular hip thing ever. If you were a certain age. But around that time Dougie Howser was, probably, 100 times more popular (or at least more watched). Hell, the Golden Girls were kicking Bart's behind in the ratings.

Sideshow Giant Gonzalez would have been awesome.

Are you talking TV ratings or overall social presence? By the beginning of 1992, The Simpsons had been involved in two incidents with the President of the United States(Less families like the Simpons, Barbara Bush's 1990 comments). 1991 was the year when they got more viewers than the Cosby show. The Simpsons were all over the place, and fully into pop culture.

Original Doink was amazing. My favorite heel back in 92/93. I loved the facial transformations from happy to evil as he would walk to the ring. Go back and watch his entrance at WM IX. There's a staredown at the camera that still gives me chills.
And "The Simpsons" back in 90/91 were f***ing massive. Doesn't mean Vince has any idea though. He's so insulated from the outside world he probably thinks Beyonce is one of the Supremes.
