I figure this is a discussion worth having, with all the lining fur an alternative to WWE. ROH has a lot if advantages that could serve it well if it were to make the effort; a loyal fanbase, a solid reputation, and some of the best talent there is available. What they are lacking is a well heeled backer ala Ted Turner or the Carter family, and most of all-a national TV deal that woukd expose them to a wider audience. And that is actually the main reason I think it is not possible for ROH to make that leap at this time; their current ownership could not afford to part with them, as they are the biggest moneymaker they have. So in order to buy up ROH, any interested party would pretty much have to buy up the whole shmeer in the process. More's the pity.

I think they could be. They definitely have the roster to do it and the right people seem to be in charge.

They already pretty much are national. They've toured to over 20 different states with live events, as well as Japan, the UK, and Canada. Their tv show is available on broadcast stations in more homes than TNA's new network. They've done traditional PPV (taped ones years ago, and more recently, a live one). They're not "competition for WWE," because honestly, no one is. But since they certainly aren't specific to one region, they're already national.

They would have to be a lot less misogynistic. ROH always has great wrestling with personalities people can get behind but as long as woman are treated/represented with the level of disrespect currently shown, it won't. Plus, what's up with all the homophobic insults?

It's not a national promotion?

RoH as it is now is what all promotions should strive for.

Due to syndication on those random local networks, i am pretty sure every major market in the United States has access to ROH one way or another. The time slots may be all over the place, but its out there.

The ROH to SPIKE stuff is a lot more real and bigger than what Meltzer is reporting.
However ROH is probably going to under go a major talent exodus fairly soon.

Maybe if they can get on a channel that has more people involved or Sinclair becomes more available to the public. I think it would help if they had some kind of online deal as well.

well they'd have to up their production values go to bigger venues, and lock down their contracted wrestlers. This would require Sinclair to pump more money in. And judging by what I've seen, it's not like they give them much. The whole reason WCW backed out and Panda is cutting back on TNA is that they didn't like losing money by taking a bunch of risks. Lucha Underground is losing money like stupid and they're just filming in a warehouse in a seedy part of LA.

ROH going "national" would be a catch-22. The only way a national promotion works for ROH is if they can get top national names (and not even "Samoa Joe returned to ROH" level, but "CM Punk agreed to return to ROH" level top names at that)- and most of the biggest national names that could get ROH to that next level are either EWR diary-level pipe dreams or would destroy ROH if they brought them in. To add to it, ROH is good at separating the "genuine draws" from the ROH superstars, keeping their national draws out of the ROH title picture- which would also have to change to make ROH succeed nationally.

ROH is what it's suppose to do for Sinclair. To provide inexpensive programming for their stations that generate profits. If they go on a network, there goes Sinclair's profits, unless the amount they get dwarfs the income ROH brings in via their local stations. ROH is were it should be. No need to battle with WWE as just to claim they're the #2 wrestling organization.

I dunno. From what I saw from the 13th Anniversary show, I kinda doubt it. Great wrestling and so-so presentation. They're kind of stuck between being a cool indie, an old school "fed" and "sports entertainment." The whole tone of the show is muddled. Some thing are really great and some are way too corny and low bro to be successful on a large platform.
I do think out of all the wrestling promotions in the US, they have the best shot, but need to do some major tweaking.
