Spock was a household name whether people liked Star Trek or not.

One of the most iconic sci-fi characters of the last 50 years, to the point where doing the Vulcan hand gesture is pretty much shorthand for a sci-fi fan in most media. So yep.

Not so much popular as he was iconic. Mr. Spock - as well as Leonard Nimoy - was a household name and well-known pop culture reference. So when Nimoy died, it was definitely big news *Edit Looks like a dozen people beat me to it.

Named No. 6 on TV Guide's greatest characters of all time, and I don't think anyone could seriously argue that he's outside the top 10.
And that's from a show that lasted all of three years.

I've never watched a full episode of Star Trek but off the top of my head can name 4 of the characters (Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Scotty) and three of the actors (Nimoy, Shatner and Takai) as well as knowing the names of the spaceship and the alien villains. Cant really think of a another show where a non viewer would know so much about it.

The Apex Samoan I feel like if Orton kept the eyebrows and the pointy ears, he'd make a decent Namor the Submariner (looks-wise, at least).
