I don't think Vince is out of touch

I thought about this when reading some threads about Vince being out of touch.

In my honest opinion I don't think Vince is out of touch so much that he just doesn't give a rat's ass because he doesn't have to. And why should he there really isn't a #2 promotion breathing down his neck.

I don't think he really means some of the stuff he said about Cesaro, grabbing the brass ring, etcs but, why should he care there's not really a another federation that Cesaro can jump to that he'll be visible to the masses and make a name for himself like WWE.

Now if there was a WCW breathing down his neck or hell kicking his ass like they were in 97-98 Vince would not be saying those things or giving yoyo pushes because they can take they talents to WCW and still become or stay big stars.

Why wouldn't he mean the things he said? And if you think he didn't mean it, why play devil's advocate and say even if he did mean it, Cesaro doesn't have other options? And for the record he does have other options, look at AJ Styles in Japan for example.

You're saying he doesn't need to care about various things because he's on top, okay. How does that relate to how in touch he is?

I don't think he's been in touch since the late 80s. He's mostly backed ass-backwards into hot angles or been fortunate enough to have talent that got over in spite of his ideas (Austin, Rock, Foley, Cesaro and his horrible yodeling gimmick, etc).

Even as a kid I knew that cornball super patriot Lex Luger was utter tripe and about 10 years past its expiration date.

THANK YOU! I used to get hazed in an old forum years and years ago where I said Vince wasn't a creative genius at all. Excellent promoter? Perhaps. If you count lying to your father on his death bed when he asked him not to invade other territories, and then running everyone out of business after he passed as promoting. From "Shut up" to "yeerrrrrr Faaaarrrrreed" to his "strut" down to the ring he's always come off as a glorified carny to me. Yes, he gave us the Undertaker. But even then on paper it's a stupid gimmick. Mark made that one work. I don't see Vince as a good person at all. Yes I watch, in spite of him, not because of him. You'll never see me as one of those people in the crowd that bow to him.

I don't think the OP was saying Vince shouldn't care due to a lack of competition, just that Vince believes he shouldn't have to care due to a lack of competition.

Absolutely spot on. Look no further than the movie Scarface being released in 1983 & Razor Ramon debuting in 1992. Vince has (had ?) many strengths, being current isn't one of them. If someone like Rob Terry grew out a blonde mullet, tied tassels around his biceps, wore a fringe leather vest along with neon trunks he could circumvent all of WWE's developmental by just going into Vince's office & doing a bodybuilding pose down.

Vince would have him in the ME in a month coming out to Night Ranger.

With Vince, I always assumed he's fallen victim to the bubble of his own creation. He's WAY too close to everything that he's lost perspective in many ways especially by creating an atmosphere that seems to create a world of yes-men and confirmation bias. Someone else said it, but he cares TOO much and that makes it tough to honestly look at what you're working on.

Fans don't like an insular product that they feel like they're being left out of.

Vince doesn't like outside voices that "haven't been here" and haven't gained his trust.

In some ways Vince is definitely out of touch, but in others not so much, or at least he listens to people that are in touch. WWE has done a great job of using modern technology. Personally I think the WWE network was a very good idea, PPV is dying. While he damns the UFC, he also has a former UFC champion as his own champion, the top drawing UFC champion of all time. These are not things I would see an old school promoter doing, ever, if they were completely out of touch. He has been pushing younger talent for a while, whether we agree with all of it or not. Wrestlers have been using social media to add to feuds, although apparently the WWE does govern it. Also, with the Authority/Daniel Bryan and other story lines in recent years they have basically been mocking/trolling the IWC community, so it's obvious they are aware of that. I think the biggest problem is that Vince is a control freak, always has been. He also still has his own image for the business and he always has, with an obsession for bodybuilders. But if you want to see a company that is out of touch watch TNA/Impact.
