Nothing that John Cena does or experiences informs future perceptions of him within WWE canon.
In the past, John Cena was constantly being placed "against the odds", yet somehow came out victorious 97% of the time. In spite of this, what WWE writing perceived as "the odds" never shifted.
Now, literally every Cena feud of the past few years has seen a "more intense" Cena. Every opponent brings out "a John Cena we've never seen before", often multiple times within the same feud. The idea that this darker, more violent Cena is just the new baseline is never posited. WWE writing reverts the John Cena character back to default at the end of every Raw, like a sitcom character after a 22 minutes episode.

He's one of the worst written characters I've ever seen on TV.

Even Ted Mosby looks at Cena and goes: "C'mon John, be less douchey."

I thought this was going to be a comparison to Leonard on the Big Bang Theory.
We're supposed to sympathize with him even though he acts like a jerk a lot of the time.

Let's not forget how he treats his friends.

Also, he is appalled at the idea of Axelmania running wild that he'd let this guy get destroyed so he could turn around and make Rusev look like a weenie.

Is it too much to hope for that anyone on air will mention the fact that what he pulled on Monday was pretty much the same thing Rollins pulled to force Cena to bring the Authority back?
I feel like Heenan would have, if this were Hogan.

I feel like Heenan would have, if this were Hogan. Bobby would but Ventura would have ripped him apart. And the face announcers for siding with him. In Jesse would possibly verbally destroy the IC belt thieves. Man I miss Jesse.

If the WWE brought back Ventura to replace JBL or Booker, I'd give it an hour before he stands up, take the headset off and never be seen or acknowledged on WWE television again.

If the WWE brought back Ventura to replace JBL or Booker, I'd give it an hour before he stands up, take the headset off and never be seen or acknowledged on WWE television again. So, he'd never even see the Cena segment. Cole: Hey Jesse, I bet you're gonna go POTATO farming with R-Truth. Jesse: What? No, that's stupid. Booker: It's called pop and lock, Cole. R-Truth: Fo rizzle. Jesse: What is he talking about? Cole: Why don't you get the potatoes out of your ears, Jesse? Jesse: This is just trash, and I hosted a conspiracy theory show. Honestly, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Y'know what, I'm just gonna go.

- Treats his friends like crap.
- Sociopathic behavior in general.
- Kissed many females on screen, including one of his good friends' love interest.
- Has poked fun of fat people before.
- Moments of vulnerability are quickly negated.
- Gets presented as an alpha male who is better than everyone else.
What am I getting at? John Cena is Zack Morris.

Cena is written worse than a sitcom character.
Hell, I don't even think anything he does actually has writers.

Most sitcom characters have more depth than Cena.

John Cena is a poor man's version of Jeff Winger.
Self-centered and refuses to put over the other members of his study group. They themselves adore the guy and yet, he still has a legion of haters (Chang, the Dean, whoever John Oliver is supposed to be).

That's really the whole issue with Cena. Some people can claim for Cena to be better "rap again!", or "turn heel!", or "be serious and mature!"...no. No, I'd just settle for John Cena having a consistent, internal logic- that the fans can recognize as Cena's moral code which he doesn't stray from and dictates what he does in the ring and outside of the ring.
Right now, all of Cena's problems since he became the face of the WWE really boil down to the simple fact: The answer to "If you put John Cena in [situation X], What would John Cena do?" is "Whatever the writers wrote him to do this week."
