first-time World Champion since Daniel Bryan in December 2011.
Yup that's right they haven't created a star in four years and the last star they made (Daniel Bryan) was already a former World Champion when he won the big one for the fourth time at WM30.

Partially because of that stupid Dolph Ziggler being champion for 8 minutes in 2010 story

To be fair, that's closer to three years at the moment. No doubt they've been slow to really push new stars, and this 'Mania build has been a bit baffling. But I'm thinking we'll see several first time champions in 2015. Seth Rollins for sure at least.

I thought the topic would be him winning the Heavyweight title before winning another singles title

That's a sad stat.
Granted, I don't like the title changing hands too often, nor do I like everyone getting a run with the title..
But just about every reign sans Punks' was underwhelming in some way. It doesn't help that when in doubt: put the title on Cena and Orton a hundred times.

This statistic really becomes worse if you don't consider the WHC to be "the big one." I definitely don't, as it isn't booked anywhere near the level of the WWE Championship.

I see actually see this as a good thing, WWE needed a mini-reset after the period when any Swagger or Del Rio could be a world champion.
Like it's already been pointed out star-making moments for guys that have already been world champion (multiple times in Bryan's case) never seemed right to me.

If you don't then it'd just be Alberto a few months prior. Either way, I remember thinking it was pathetic when in 2009 Sheamus was the only new person across both titles to win a major belt. Man, how awful things have gotten in turns of people getting any sort of upward mobility. I thought the topic would be him winning the Heavyweight title before winning another singles title Nah, Batista, Taker, Hogan, Alberto, Kane, Big Show...

To repeat the point I made in the other fun fact thread, what would a "good" number of new WWE champions over that period be? 5?
And of course the negativity around this stat ignores the fact that most people don't want Reigns in the main event, and instead want the same guy that was in the main event last year. So we say it's terrible number but we also want it to stay the same.

What makes this even more amusing in context is how Reigns is less talented than Swagger and especially Del Rio.

But they'd be better off if during that time "any Swagger or Del Rio could be a world champion" that they made one of the people a mainstay in the World Title picture instead of just going back to who was there before. Make Del Rio a 5-6 time champion, give Mark Henry a run as the WWE champion and run with it, or Kane or somebody. I'm not saying they were all gold in the ring, and I'm not saying they ALL should've been the mainstays, but they should have been establishing some people as legit world champion material during that time so if you had to flip-flop between people, you'd have had someone new. But it seems like they only one they pulled that off with during that span was CM Punk, and the point where you felt he was a mainstay was WELL after they'd gone back to Orton and Cena carrying the WWE Championship load back and forth. To their credit, they gave Jeff Hardy an honest go and busted on that.

...Yup that's right they haven't created a star in four years... So the only way to make a star is to give them a belt? Nope. Even that doesn't work anymore. All it seems to do nowadays is devalue the belt unless it's one of the usual suspects. In which case it remains about the same as is. Honestly I think the WWE has just plain forgotten how to make a new main event star. They always seem to drop the ball and make mistake after mistake with their talents, and in the end it ends up with nobody measuring up to expectations. And then they wonder why the roster is so shallow that they have to rely on the same matches over and over and over again.

Should Reigns defeat Brock, he will be the first person to win their first world championship at Mania since Mysterio at WM22.

This statistic really becomes worse if you don't consider the WHC to be "the big one." I definitely don't, as it isn't booked anywhere near the level of the WWE Championship. Can't really help that when WWE themselves treat former World Heavyweight Champions as if they haven't "made it" until they won the WWE Title. CM Punk is a Three Time Former World Heavyweight Champion, yet the pipe bomb promo basically made it seem like he was a C-show level jobber until that point. Plus everyone acted as if Punk leaving with the WWE Championship was "the darkest timeline" even though in said "darkest timeline", the WHC was still there. And it didn't help that person holding the World Title at the time didn't just step in and say, "Punk's gone? Good riddance, this is my house now". Mark Henry's fake retirement was based on him "never winning the big one" And of course there's the whole mess with Daniel Bryan. You can make the argument that fans don't just want him to be champion, but that they also want him to be the new Cena, but the fact is, that he's presented as a guy who didn't really break through until he won the WWE Championship.
