I know this poll will prob be a landslide for Godzilla 2014 but i was wondering if anybody enjoyed the 1998 movie more? I've just watched both movies back to back and its kinda tough to decide. The only thing i like about Godzilla 14 was they got the look of godzilla right...had him have atomic breath...fight other monsters and was indestructable. Everything the 98 movie didn't do...however as a movie i just enjoyed the 98 one alot more. It just felt alot more fun and exciting whilst the 2014 movie didn't show any action or fun until the end fight.
I've heard alot of people argue its just the same as in the original Godzilla or Jaws but those movies ...Jaws especially worked because the characters & dialogue kept you into the movie...Godzilla 14's characters were bland and dialogue uninteresting.Bryan Cranston was a great character and could've been the Chief Brody of the movie but they kill him off so quickly! Godzilla 98 was a stupid popcorn flick that you can watch without getting really bored...2014 however i felt myself texting or doing other things while it was on...the monsters would grab back my attention for a brief moment but within 20 seconds they were off screen and back to 20 mins of boring dialogue.
I really think my perfect Godzilla movie would be the Godzilla look and attributes from the 2014 movie...with the story of the 1998 movie. Him just attacking a big city and taking on the army with a good lead like Bryan Cranston replacing Matthew Broderick.
So what does everyone think about comparing these movies? Anyone actually prefer the 1998 version?

I like the 1998 version better. The 2014 version was boring as f***.

I really disliked the 2014 version. 1998 was bad, but at least 1998 actually showed the creature doing stuff and didn't cut away right when something was about to happen. Also, 1998 did have people who emoted through much of the movie, as opposed to Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch blandly existing.
Still, I find myself conflicted.

1998 is hardly a Godzilla movie, but 2014 is just infuriatingly boring and wasteful.

2014 does have its problems, but I prefer it easily to 1998.

Still need to check out the 2014 one. I will say that the 1998 movie was pretty damn terrible though.

Godzilla 2014 all the way, there are no redeeming qualities about The Beast 'they call Godzilla' from 20,000 fathoms remake.
Well maybe Jean Reno but that's it.

The fact that this is even a legitimate question just goes to show how brutally Gareth Edwards f***ed up with his interpretation of the Godzilla franchise.

The 2014 was great except for the amount of Bryan Cranston. That bait and switch pissed me right the hell off.
The 1998 movie is complete garbage.

The 2014 film was an okayish but not great Godzilla movie with characters that were a little bland, but not unsympathetic. The score is awesome.
The 1998 film is a complete trainwreck masquerading as a Godzilla movie with characters that were fascinating in how stupid and annoying they were. The soundtrack is awesome.

A little of both
Godzilla was more badass in 2014 but he was hardly on screen and the other stuff was BORING!
98 wasn't Godzilla but it was at least an entertaining time waster
98 wins due to being a bit more entertaining despite its ungodzillaness

That's a tough one. 98 Godzilla did have Jean Reno, but 2014 had better SFX.

I think why I prefer 2014 is that 2014 has Godzilla actually destroying things while 1998 has Godzilla quickly dodging attacks from the national guard, causing them to destroy things.

1998 had a couple hundred foot monster hiding in New York city.
Hiding.
Not hiding from another monster behind a giant building or something, but in full stealth mode with thousands of troops and all their tech looking for it. "Oh but Val, it went underground!" Shut up.

2014 and it's not even close. You can't even call the 1998 movie a Godzilla film. Add into the fact that even TOHO was impressed as hell and has given them the reason to start making more movies themselves. I honestly facepalm anytime I hear that you don't see him that much TBH. If you rewatch the older movies again you realize it's kind of a running theme where you have to sit through an hour of boring characters and hilarious plots to get to Godzilla vs Whoever. (Not every movie is like that but a lot are)

Godzilla 98 is a bad movie in general, not just a bad Godzilla flick.
Last year's was quite flawed, but it had enough good that I really enjoyed it.
